Jedra try setting ugridstoload to 9 rather than 11, it is apparently the highest stable number you can use. The LAA executable from skyrimnexus is equally vital, I crash when loading an area without it.

Unfortunately there is no going back from ugrids as it then refuses to load a save game with a higher ugrid value! I am already using an LAA fix albeit on the pre-patched exe. Looks like I am going to have to wait and see what Bethesda release.

No there is a way to change a save's ugrid value. Here under heading "TheOctagon's uGrids tutorial+Reverting back saves"
Essentially you load the save with the correct ugrids and then change the ini ingame. Make sure to backup your ini beforehand though, since saving it ingame bloats it and some things in the menu get a red tint. It should be fine after replacing with an ini of the correct size with whatever you set the ugrids to.

Don't quite understand why you would disable crossfire, personally. Once I'd played about with RadeonPro a bit, CF made a massive difference in my FPS! Disabling it makes the game into a slide show (at my current settings). Running the LAA fix with the main exe (pre-patch) relabelled as "Fallout3", and RadeonPro profile set to Oblivion CF profile with "Alternate Frame Rendering" (and Aero disabled). Works fantastically, without a single crash over 30 hours played so far.

Anyway, have a screenshot taken at exactly the right time:

No idea why there is a blue box in the upper right; just an artefact in the original capture...

@ironDoc - thanks for that - I had a quick google last night but couldn't find anything - it was the end of a loooong day though!

@Malvolio - disabling Crossfire although slightly reducing my FPS made the game a lot smoother. I had originally disabled it in the AMD XML until the hotfix came out. I couldn't get a setting in Radeon Pro that worked for me. AMD have said that a driver fix is needed rather than a CAP release so it sort of explains why Radeon Pro might not be effective. Having said this, I will try your approach to Radeon Pro - I have never tried switching Aero off before in Radeon Pro.

    Thanks for your help guys.

Disabling Aero simply frees up some RAM (unsure if it is system or video though), and I'm only doing it because it was an option! The biggest differences I've seen on my own system have been from renaming the program file to Fallout3, and from setting the CF profile to how I have it. Occasionally within towns I do get some stuttering or slow-down, but only for very brief moments in the most random of occasions. Still, game is enthralling and looks damn good (except for the textures of the plants - why can't they ever get it right?), so no complaints here! Though the new driver/update would be more than welcome!

Anyone know a good place to get ebony ingots? Only place I found that sold one so far is the riverwood trader but he only had 1 ingot.

If you are prepared to mine some ore, there's a vein
right at the top of the Throat of the World
that gives about 3 pieces of ore.

Thanks for that link - extremely useful. I am now runnng stable on ugrids 9. Serves me right for going all Spinal Tap and switching to 11! Although after 50 hours on 11, it doesn't look so impressive at 9 - although I can now actually play it again!

@Malvolio - set up a Radeon Pro profile, but as I applied the AMD Hotfix, this overrides the Radeon Pro setting (as it's driver based and not CAP based) so I can't get crossfire back unless I rename the exe. If I rename the exe then I don't run through Steam - not a great problem but part of me will miss the achievements! Gonna play around with it and see if I can fool it somehow.

The blacksmiths in the other towns will have some every so often.

I always use whiterun, skyforge and blacksmiths, and my home to quickly store stuff.

Gloombound Mine, due south-east of Windhelm inside the orc stronghold of Narzulbur, you have to do a quest to get in but its only a quick one and definately worth it - 16 ebony veins, 5 iron veins, easily enough for a full set of armour.

I get light vs heavy armor, but is there any difference for the weapons of those groups in skyrim?
Bascially: is there something to stop me useing a Ebony Blade if I'm a thief (light armor)?

No. You can use a daedric dagger if you like.

There's nothing that stops you, but you may have built your stats in favour of something else which makes weilding an Ebony Blade less effective than something else. I think the classes are just guides really, once you start you can be whatever you want to be!

Just started my third character, gonna go for pure thief :)
First character is level 50 and a bit of a hybrid
Second is 25 and 2h with heavy armour

Maybe I should slow down a bit...

Finding the difficulty a bit odd.

I'm a thiefy type character, light armour, one-handed swords/daggers, sneaking, lockpicking, that sort of thing.

Currently I usually either sneak around with my bow or a sword/dagger combo (all currently Elven). My bow is getting less and less useful, I can still 1 shot sneak attack a lot of enemies in a dungeon but tougher and tougher enemies mean it's not happening as much now.

My dagger is the **** with a sneak attack, took out a boss type I was having trouble with in 1 hit. However, there are many situations where sneak attacking with my dagger is impossible without using something like and invisibility potion.

What I'm quite often finding in these situations, and I think it's a bit ridiculous, is I end up using the Flames starting spell, sprinting past, when the get close, repeat. My destruction isn't that high so it's a bit stupid that I have to resort to this or get killed in 1 hit by something.

However, very minor grip with this incredible game. This game feels like the sequel to Morrowind, Oblivion just felt like a game made by someone who had been told what Morrowind was like.

EDIT: Just got back from work, my typing is awful, must mean it is time to play games instead :)

I play as an all out destruction mage and difficulty isn't a problem, most things are easy to kill.
