Does anyone here know anything about what sleep deprivation does to someone? I am 15 and male BTW.

Basically what I'm doing is staying awake from 4am till 11pm today and tomorrow, then 4am-4am on saturday. All of this to prove a point to someone that the flute is a better instrument than the clarinet. If we both make it it continues untill one of us goes to sleep. The loser has to admit that the other person's instrument is better in front of the whole school band and our music teacher (who playes clarinet). Silly really, but it is to solve a feud that has been going on for months.

So basically what will happen to me? I've resigned myself to the fact that I won't learn much in school tomorrow and probibly monday.

Oh, and could someone poll this so I can see what the bit community thinks - flute or clarinet?

I once did a 56 hour stretch for work. (Long story)

The strangest/worst effect was smelling peanutbutter in a environment where that was impossible (oil/steel/ and coveralls)

No man, don't worry. You're good...

I ussually sleep 7-8 hours regularly, however I very little past 3nights. Result: not that tired surprisingly, but sick. Had a small fever, coughing and all that stuff. =\ I would like to be able to get enaugh sleep from 10-15mins of sleep like elephants do. I could do twice more in my life =)

You'll be fine - don't make a regular habit of it and you've got nothing to worry about. :)

But sleep deprivation doesn't prove that at all? :worried:

Obviously whoever is more hardcore has the opinion of higher value. A bit like whoever has al arger post count automatically has an opinion of higher value.

Caffeine and more caffeine should do it. Pinch yourself every so often to stop yourself falling asleep.

And didn't I see a picture on the war of the pictures thread which was a pill that makes you stay awake?

That ammount of sleep dep won't do you any harm, so it's perfectly safe to attempt.

Do not stay awake more then about three days.

Even if you can, it's extremely bad for your brain. Parts of your brain brown-out, like what happens when you take LSD, only considerably worse.

The first stretch sounds the longest, by the end of it you start to get the odd auditory halucination, possibly see the odd shadow out of the corner of your eye that isn't there, but nothing major, and it's unlikely you'll even get anything.

Drink steady ammounts of caffeine. Drink too much after about 24 hours in one go and when the effects wear off you'll sleep for sure, so it steadily, and in not stupidly high quantities :)

Don't forget to eat something, that'll help.

Also, hopefully you'll learn sometime that musical instruments can't be better then each other, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

As long as you don't do anything where you need to pay attention (like driving... that's about it really, modding's a given of course) then you should be OK.

Last time I was awake for a very long time, I got hallucinations in that I thought I was dreaming and so could do anything I wanted to. Almost pulled off my pants and walked around yelling silly things. When I had the urge to pull off my pants I said enough and went to sleep :p.

So be sure not to do anything stupid like pulling off your pants in front of the whole class.

Don't be surprised if you start to hallucinate - happens to me if I go 36 hours+ without sleep. Visual and aural hallucinations! Can be fun, scary or just downright irritating!

Normally happens just as I'm trying to get off to sleep after being awake for ages - now that's annoying! Just as I doze off I start hearing things which wake me up only to find they're not there...

<A88> Nah this is way more fun.

It's all about who is harder. It doesn't matter that I'm against a girl who is gonna beat me because she does this constantly, it's all a matter of

OK I left this window open for 2 minutes and I've forgotten what I was gonna write next.

20 minutes then I can catch some sleep for 5 hours, then it starts all over again!
