here are the basics: -it takes me a long time to fall asleep -once asleep the slightest noise wakes me up solutions? do sleeping pills work?
maybe it would be an idea to find the reson for your sleeping problem. what are you doing while lying in bed? do think about stuff or turn around a million times? resons for a lite sleep could be all kind of stuff. slleping pills or drinking wouldnt be a solution as the dont help against the problem the only paint over it. had sleeping problem to when i was younger and the reson was that i was afraid of my future as i didnt knew a the time what should i be then. after i gave my life a direction the problem disapiert.
i close my eyes and find a comfortable position. but that eventually becomes uncomfortables. the pillow might be too hot. or the blanket. sometimes i just think of stuff but i force myself not to. i'm just aware a lot when i'm trying to sleep.
and don't smoke or drink caffeinated beverages (coffee is obvious, but remember tea and cola are full of it as well) within 2 hours before going to bed. Don't eat anything before you go to bed - have a glass of milk or water and that's it. You have to wind down before hitting the sack - if you're coming home from work and going straight to bed your head will still be spinning with the day's stresses, so get some air, go for a walk or a run, read for a bit. Avoid TV and computer screens for the last hour or so before going to bed. You really don't want to get into the habit of using sleeping pills - they should be for very infrequent use only. And getting in the way of drinking every night to help you sleep (as suggested above) is a pretty bad idea as well. Try opening the window a bit - i sleep better with fresh air. If all else fails, try asking your doctor. I find that I can't sleep when I have to be up early and I get to bed late - it's a vicious circle because you get anxious about not getting enough sleep to be on form the next day, but the anxiety keeps you up, and as you realise the time ticking away while you're lying there wide awake, it gets worse and worse. So I get up and go for a walk (even at like 2am), then when I come back I tend to be more relaxed and can get to sleep
some people may have that gene that makes you fall asleep when you smoke in bed, because smoking can be relaxing. therefore that is on the borderline of dont smoke or do before bed. there is also the risk of fire if you smoke in bed and fall asleep, so watch out for that.
If you really struggle, eat something with a lot of carbohydrate about an hour before you go to bed, then a glass of milk just before you do. Try spending less time on a computer too, it sounds silly, but i find if i spend all night on a computer, my brain loses track of time, so an hour can feel like 10 seconds, and i'm not tired because my "bodyclock" doesn't know what time it is.
Funny thing you ask this now as last night I went through a sleep study. Those were 2 things that I had a problem with, but are you real sleepy durring the day? When you wake up, does it feel like you didn't get any sleep at all? Do you wake up at night often? If so, talk to your doctor - he/she may want to have a sleep study on you. I know exactly what my problem is now and how I can fix it. According to the nurse, I have Accute Sleep Apnea (not sure if it's obstructive or central yet) and it's quite severe. I guess that when I did go to sleep, I almost immedietely woke up because I stopped breathing - one time for nearly 2 minutes. That makes for a VERY light sleep and could be your problem.
Come off the computer at least 1 hour before you go to bed, if not you end up going to bed after a 5 hour CSS gaming session, then you're 'high as a kite' You could try some relaxing music, although people have different ideas of what's relaxing, you have to experiment and find something that's right for you. Sleeping pills do work, my dad has to take them due to his shift pattern, he'll have to spend the day in bed when he's on nightshift. He gets in at ~8AM, takes a sleeping tablet 8:30, give him 10 minutes and he can't keep his eyes open. He disagrees with the usage of them as you can become reliant on them; he finds it a necessity in order to get any rest.
nice ,nearly burst out laughing when i saw that when i had sleep problems I tried a hypnotherapist friend of mine, dont laugh it worked for me just taught me to relax properly and a little self hypnosis routine for when i really cant sleep, I'm out like a light within 20 minutes of going to bed which is a better than going to bed @ 11-12 and not actually sleeping till 4 or 5 in the morning when you've got to be @ work for 830
Dude you have exactly the same problem as me. I have the problem with the pillows getting too hot and having to move. And the thinking one too. I'm going to try that one about not reading etc. in bed, will read on my chair then go to bed and see what happens.
Say at 10pm, turn off telly and PC, turn on some relaxing music VERY quiet and start reading a book. Turn off all lights apart from a soft reading light. At 11pm, stop reading and set a 60 minute sleep timer on the hifi. Get your head into your pillow and try to get some sleep. Some people can't get to sleep with music on (me included) so try with and without. No food or drink 2 hours before going to sleep, preferably no caffeinated drinks in evening, if you have to a coffee/tea after dinner. ventilation is vital (1-2 degrees too hot or cold can stop you going to sleep). A night light can really help sometimes, I've got a glow-in-the-dark lightbulb which realy helps (lol, I'm 21 BTW ).
