    Hi,

I LOVE seeing the stuff that everyone pulls off here - it has inspired me to join and start learning.
I recently won a new a new Enermax iVektor case and ETS-T40 white. After swapping over the stuff from my old case and seeing how well things looked inside all tucked away... I wanted to make it look better... so I came here. I may now have the bug. Thanks... :wallbash:

    so on to the question:

I am assuming it would not be too hard to sleeve a non modular PSU (just remove the wires from the plugs, sleeve em, put it back together)....

But what about removing the extra - unused wires?

Ive got a PC Power and cooling 610w pus, and almost every cord that uses the old 4-pin power plug is not being used. They are awkward stuffed in the space behind the MB panel.

Is there a way to just remove them? (safely that is lol) if I just cut.. what should I use to cap them off.

    Thanks!

Depending upon your comfort level you could snip them right off the PCB with in the power supply. Cut close enough you wouldn't need to do anything else. To do this you'll want a good set of side snips (or side cutter) not just a pair of wire cutters.

Alternatively if you don't want to get too close to the PCB you could cap the wires with a marrette (make sure you don't mix voltages). Google can provide installation instructions. Downside is marrettes are bulky so depending upon your power supply it might be hard to find space to to tuck them away.

Third option would be use liquid electrical tape. Just dip the cut ends of the wire in the goo, let dry and your wires are insulated. I have never used the stuff so I cannot comment on how well it works.

Last option I know of is electrical tape. I strongly advise against. With time the tape will unwrap and could lead to short circuit.

If you have access to a soldering iron or a heat gun then heat shrink sleeving is a good way to insulate the ends of unused wires.

This. (Or un-solder them from the PCB).

    I'd unsolder them.

Or sell up and buy a modular PSU ;)

but I will try this for now... I think i actually do have a soldering gun (somewhere lol) never even thought to try that :)

Don't forget to apply some solder to the tip of the iron to use to loosen the solder contacts. Otherwise you'll just get things very hot and nothing will come off.

If they are in a clump on the PSU as they often are I would just get a pair of snips and snip them off right at their solder point. Otherwise you could loosen a big pool of solder and end up with wires you need falling out.

.....lol i didnt even think of that. I could just snip them there.

question though. is there anything inside the PSU i need to be cautious of? I part of my brain wants to recall some info about certain components storing some charge? dont know if that applies. :) Just want to be sure
