So i might be getting another 275 for free, a BFG one with that awesome lifetime warranty they have these days, and i'm going to try to SLi them. Thing is, the BFG one is factory overclocked.

Could i get SLi working if i underclock the OC card or OC the reference card? I tried to do a search with the "sli" and "clock speed" keywords but as you can imagine that didn't really narrow it down so sorry if it's been asked over nine thousand times before.

    Thanks

It's all for compatibility, nothing more. No reason why you couldn't overclock the standard card to the same speeds or overclock both further. Depending on whether or not any modifications have been made by BFG to their card over the reference card (unlikely) you could copy the BIOS of the BFG to the reference card and leave it at that.

I was thinking it was kinda weird that a forum regular such as yourself wouldn't know about it, my bad as well :D

Would i want to do that with the stock coolers though? The ASUS is non-reference so i can't watercool them.
Lol, that's one way to look at it.

Oh, i just realized i'll have to retire the good old Tagan PSU. Not enough juice, not enough cables.

Clock speeds aren't a problem, back in the day I even ran two very different 7600GT's (the left and middle in this pic) in SLI. Those not only had different clock speeds, but also completely different PCBs (none of which reference, afaik) and it worked just fine. In four years I'm quite sure the SLI-support hasn't gotten any worse :D

They are hot running cards, but as long as you keep it under 90C or so, it should be fine. Which Asus card do you have? The ENGTX275 is a reference card, in case you have one of those.

I keep recommending them, TX650 is a great choice.

Yeah reference-ish, apart from the two bloody enormous extra capacitors they decided to place near the sli bridges to make sure none of the full cover blocks fit. Here's my PCB

I'll be going with a modular Corsair most likely.

Okay, I'm mistaken, it's not really reference, has a few modifications, the extra caps being those, supposedly to increase power stability. Meh, RivaTuner or modifying the BIOS of the second card, and you're sorted :)

To be honest with you i'm still playing with the idea of removing those caps, see if it'd work without them.
