Well i was expecting it but now it looks like its going to be confirmed. 2x SLI wasnt enough now were about to get 3x SLI!!!!

and after that maybe 4xSLI :wallbash:

I personally think this is a BAD idea for the graphics industry and a VERY VERY bad idea for the electricity grid. I cant even fathom how much power you would need for 3x SLI (8800s) let alone 4x.
Its just getting silly now

    more powaaaah!

And just think how expensive that comes.. The next big leap in the area of GFX-cards will be when chip manufacturers finally discover the fact that the current graphic cards draw too much power.

It may take some time before they come to realise that, but I'm waiting.

lol...not exactly the most "trusted" source for info, but hey, its good stuff. i definately cant wait to get 3 8800gtx's running so i can pwn on rogue spear...i really would have to see it to believe it though...i mean, they are really just shooting themselves in the foot. why buy an 8800 gtx? you can run any game coming out in the next 2 years + with 3 8600 gt's

There's actually no physical way to run 4x8800GTX with their current sinks.

lol...no kidding...you'de have to buy a full tower, then mod it with a direct connection to a power line. throw on another 2 ton ac unit with the vent blowing directly on those bastages...

I think you can't use 4x SLI with dual slot coolers becuase that means 8x PCI slots need using, and basically every case has 7.

F the BTX, maybe they'll instead launch a mobo-standard that has 10 card slots!

And about the current cards.. I think even a single 8800GTX will "run" games for a few years.. Atleast if one can lower the settings just slightly.

So what? Like you said, trig, a single X1800 will run the game at maximum everything. The extra thousand and a half dollars for three 8800s will be wasted.

(And I have panzered people with 7900GTXSLIOMG! with my single X800. Better performance does not make the owner a better gamer.)

.......I hope they are wrong. 1 videocard is enough. The whole point of SLI was to make your system last longer so that when you outrun your 7800GTX you could pop in another one and keep on kicking but then everone figured out that a new 7800GTX was $300 but the 7900 was $400 and performed better so they could sell the old 7800 for $200 and spend an extra $200 for a better card.... see what I'm getting at?

absolutely...a buddy of mine just dropped $200+ on a 7900 gtx...actually a good deal, even though it was used, to put in his rig for sli...i told him to sell his and buy an 8800 gts. he didnt...not sure why...

because it's phuckin SLI biatch ;) I guess it just makes your VP longer if you have two cards instead of one. I've seen the same phenomena before.

thing is, one 8800 gts will use less power, create less heat, and prob perform almost as well at high rez...plus be dx10!! ah well...to each his own
