Was just wondering if it would be possible to run a 6800GT in SLI with a 6600GT? :eyebrow:

    Or would it have to be a dual setup, i.e, 6800GT + 6800GT or 6600GT + 6600GT?

Thanks for your help guys! :)

The latter- SLI requires identical cards I'm afraid

:baby: Yup, and not just the model number (eg 6800GT) it reportedly has to be absolutely identical cards (eg MSI 6800GT 256MB). It will be interesting to see if the various minor revisions many cards undergo in their retail lifetime will cause problems for SLI.

IIRC it has to be the same BIOS on both cards, so I doubt it would be completely impossible to run two 6xxx's from different manufacturers in SLI. Would need some BIOS swapping though...

I reckon thats going to cause quite a few problems with SLI as so many of the high end manufacturers do loads of special editions and such like that aren'e necessarily available for an extended period of time. That'll just thwart is as surely the hole point is to buy one card then add another at a later date for an extra boost...

Hence the fact thjat I have decided to stick with AGP until at least Q4 next year, in order to give companies the time to work out the bugs.

    Thanks for your help guys!

I see what you mean, that it may be worth holding out to see the best setup and the fact all new technology seems to get gliches early doors!
