I have a weird issue. I just finished buying and building an enthusiast overclocker build. Everything has been working great except I have one problem, I cannot find a graphics card at my price-point. When they were retailing for their MSRP I was planning on getting a 5850, now due to some other complications I need the best card I can get for roughly 200 US dollars. So far my best bet looks like a HIS 4890 for around 170$ shipped. I am running Windows 7 and would really like to utilize DX11 in the future. My problem with waiting is this is the first build I have done in 6 years and my current card (GeForce 7950GT) cannot run games at my monitors resolution. Is there any hope for people stuck in the middle in the foreseeable future?
Yeah, now's not a good time to be buying a graphics card with NVIDIA's GTX 2xx cards being EOL'd and ATI's ongoing problems with low 40nm yields causing 58xx shortages. Your best option is to grab a 4870/4890 or wait for some price drops.
