Its wonderful stuff *takes another sip* and i just wanted to see how many ppl over here in Bit-Tech knew about/have tasted it?
Also has anyone ever made sloe cake? i havent done this yet but wouldnt mind giving it a go :D

    How to:
take 1lb of sloe berries (pricked)
then take 1 pint of gin (or vodka)
finally add half a pound of sugar and then shake.
Leave to settle for as long as possible untill the liquid turns purple.
    Drain and then drink

Yeh i make it every year, My mum loves the stuff.

All i do is pick the sloes in october, mash them up (cant be arsed to prick them, its never made much differance). Pop them, the sugar and gin in a large jar untill christmas remembering to give it a good shake every few weeks and strain it.

    Very simple to make :thumb:

What's this? Why wasn't I informed sooner? I never even knew there was something called a sloe.

    These things?:

I've seen these around. This is cool! So I should be looking to collect these in October?

Which brands of vodka do you like to use? Do you have different ones depending on funds?

The berries are from the "blackthorn" bush and i would think that your supermarket would have some. and the vodka/gin brand ( i think) dosent make a difference to the taste as your going to effectivly let it ferment in a bottle for the next couple of months with a lot of sugar.

[edit] you mihgt have to ask for them but ive always managed to find some. generally just on the side of a road[/edit]

Dont confuse the blackthorn with the hawthorn (both trees look pretty similar) Hawthorns have red berries that are extremely nasty.

I prefer adding damsons to my vodka, use a cheapish brand - no sense in wasting stoly. If is absolutely gorgeous, although clove rock makes an interesting alternative. I've had sloe poteen in the past - that was an interesting hangover :)

Damson gin is also tres nice.

or you can mix damson and sloe gine to make slodom :thumb: :naughty:

A friend of mines parents makes insane amounts of each, they have about 14 litres on the go at any one time. Parties at their house always go down well :thumb:

my personal preferance is for damson gin, but then you cant make genius cocktails like the "sloe comfortable screw up against a wall" with that can you....

if you are too lazy to make the stuff yourself then you can always buy it, but imho it just isnt the same as homemade (and is for some reason alot weaker, when it shouldnt be). Gordons sell a premade sloe gin and plymouth sell a premade damson gin)

I do love my gin, have heard of this but never actually tried it!

Must give it a go. I assume it really is quite nice - does the sweetness mute the heat of the alcahol when drinking it?

dipends on your batch realy...you can make it so that its very sweet and then you can hardly taste the gin. I personally make it so that you cant taste the gin so it ends up being less thick.
Etherway its good fun to experiment :D

    Skittles Vodka > *

Add a few packs of skittles to a bottle of vodka, leave for 2 days, then put it in the freezer for a day. Shake well then drink.

Vodka bars can be cool though and they ususally have some pretty wacky varieties. They don't have to be 'chavy'...

Cola bottle vodka is really nice, as is cinamon. ;)
