I'm currently finding the site really slow to navigate atm. It doesn't appear to be a problem my end (no downloads, reset router, got 6.5Mbs on adsl guide, other sites are fine etc) so I figured it was worth informing you about!!!

Thanks. It's likely your ISP (or some backbone between you and us - somewhere) to be causing the problem, but we're aware in general that UK->US is not brilliant at the best of times, especially lately. We're considering a move to the UK for hosting in the not too distant future :)

Like I said - it's something between you and us because there is no hold up at our servers. I can't make the tubes go any faster!

Ok, this is far fetched, so dont take my word on it.

Isnt there a way you can have a server here and in the UK by having the sql database cp itself to the other server??

Just out of curiosity, why are you using US-based hosting? Being a UK based site, I would have thought UK hosting would be easier.

US hosting is probably a lot cheaper then UK based hosting.

Copying the database would probably age RTT by about 90 years, he'll loose his prettiness.

But seriously, how big do you think the database is? Then imagine copying that every time a post is made? Or even inserting to two different databases on two different continents, time stamps will be different. And each article will need to be copied.

Well that's certainly not an unfeasible thing to do, just (IMO) rather stupid. Initially copying the database is easy enough - it's certainly not done by hand - as well as the replication (I've never worked under the hood of vBulletin, but after having been doing quite a bit of database work myself recently, I wouldn't imagine it to be anything near an insurmountable task), but it's just not really the right solution to the problem. Clearly what we need to do is get RTT a couple thousand miles of fibre optic cable and a SCUBA outfit.

Can I just say, I don't want to dismiss the people having speed issues, BUT the office is in the UK, the servers are in the US and I'm not having any speed issues from here.

One variable is the Vista banner - that is served externally, so can cause some hold ups every now & then. For the "slow" people are you seeing that banner on the slow pages? Does your status bar say "waiting for serving-sys.com" ?

You just posted the equivalent of

Dude 1: i broke my leg!
Dude 2: that's weird. mine is just fine!

    ;)

We're hosted in the US because bandwidth is so much cheaper. The going rate per mbps in the UK is anywhere from 60-80 GBP. It gets expensive real fast.

Also have the people with issues tried running a trace route?

No, but I have had some slowness a couple of times, and firefox was saying "waiting for cms.motioncast.co.uk" Didn't actually seem like any banners were missing at that point though

Ah yes, that's the external STALKER / Supreme Commander banners. Both are ending soon.
