Networks slow connection....

Ok i routed my 2 computers on a 4port BELKIN DSL/Cabel router. I have a DSL line and i get a DL rate equal to a 56k on this computer!!! on the other computer the DL rate is how it should be. Why is mine much slower? Plz help

Thats a bit odd...

Were you downloading something on the computer with the normal rate when you checked the rate of the other computer? Did that make sense?

 

no the computer that has the good rate is on idle right now doing nothing but being connected to the internet. This computer i am on now is slow as ****.

Are the two computers identical? What are their differences?

 

I suggest swapping the ports over so that the currently slow connected pc is in the fast ones port on the router, if that makes a difference it could be a dodgy port on the router. If not it could be the cable connecting the slow pc, the NIC or possibly the settings on the computer

 

yea i think i may be using the good cabel to connect the fast pc...so i'll try swaping them..thanks

i'm having the exact same problem, just started today.

i'm using the good cable on this computer, and the other one is a k6-233 with a 10base t nic, yet it's going faster

 

That is really strange I cant think of anything else to suggest

 

black-ice, does it happen to you occasionally then go away for a few days, or is it consistant?

 

its consistant...i get a dl rate of like 10kbs/sec but thats only for like 1min...never really happens. But when i play CS i get an OK PING
