Well, ever since doing a repair install after my BIOS messed... My computer's been going a lot slower when playing games, used to run every game I own maxed out no probs with at least a minimum of 30 to 40 fps, and now I'm lucky if it even hits 10 to 20 fps.. I don't get it, I've tried updating my video drivers, but it's still the same. This rather sucks =\
So you've done a repair-reinstall of Windows.. XP I presume? Assuming the BIOS settings are the same as you had previously, the only other things I could think might cause this would be DirectX, Motherboard drivers, and GFX driver image quality settings. - The repair might have left you with a previous version of DirectX, as it's a core component of Windows - Check you still have DX9c using DXDiag. Also, it might not have reinstalled the mobo drivers, or could have reset GFX drivers to different AA / AF settings or overclock... Check it out dude!
Thanks for the reply, I re-updated all the mobo drivers and I checked the DirectX, and I reset the GFX settings to their defaults. I can copy/paste the DXDDiag logfile but it's kinda big >.>
Cool.. I see you've got that covered then! - What exactly happened when your BIOS messed up then? - Might give me a clue! Did it corrupt, or lose your settings after overclocking or something? tbh, not sure what else could be wrong, unless the CPU's throttling back or something. Might well be worth a re-install: have you got a spare HD you could use to test it out on? If it comes down to a complete re-install, I'd recommend taking steps to prepare for similar issues in the future... Either make a ghost image of your complete install (drivers, apps, games and everything as you want it) OR, do what I've done and keep Windows partitioned off from your data, and create an NLite Windows disc, which automatically pre-installs all your common apps and settings. - I couldn't care less if XP screws up, cos it'll be back to how I like it within the hour! Hope you get this sorted though!
I have a Vista drive, and it works at standard FPS. So I guess it's just the usual XP repair fix thing laming up Windows. Sigh. How do I make an NLite Windows disc as you called it? Thanks
Check it out here: NLite There's loads of pre-packaged apps available, both on the site above, and their forums. Also worth looking at www.ryanvm.net for other apps, and streamlined XP update packs. I went as far as including ALL current drivers for existing hardware, using driverpacks. Be warned though, this process can take some time, and you'll probably end up having to use a DVD for the final disk! Worth it though, IMO
Ooh, nice. Honestly, a DVD is worth not having to spend hours re-installing all the updates, all my apps + settings
