http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uvQTTPr9Rw Hahaha, so cool. http://blog.medallia.com/2006/05/smacbook_pro.html I'm sure someone will find a way to make this switch apps and other stuff too.
Can't wait for an installer and some way of getting it to work with expose, for example. I will be intrigued to see whether it will work whilst using my Powerbook on my knees though, or whether the constant small inadvertent movements will set it off all the time. Looks cool though.
Absolutely awesome! Like Tomm, I'd wonder about small movements, but I use my laptop on a table fairly frequently.
hah, just tried this out. it's only really usable with two virtual desktops, as the sensor is not really accurate enough and often gets confused between a leftwards and a rightwards smack. but set things up like that and it works a treat
Hmm, trying to get it going on my iBook. The stable window and amsvisualiser programs seem to work fine, so this should. Man, this'd be handy for photoshop and dreamweaver!
The amsvisualiser works on my iBook as well, but I can't seem to get any smackage going. I'm also trying the slapbook for VirtueDesktops, and it keeps saying "VirtueDesktops is not running", even though it is Oh well, guess I'll just have to try macsaber instead! (anyone with a motion-sensor iBook G4 that gets this to work, please post!)
You need to download Virtual Desktop separately, the included version doesn't seem to work, at least for me anyway.
Damn cool! lol, I'd imagine it would be pretty infuriating on a train. Every little bump and it would switch desktops!
actually no. its very specific in the type of movement that sets it off. you could toss it around all day and it wouldnt care
This would be cool if it could be made to work with Parallel Desktop virtualisation software for the new Macbooks/Pros. Smack the 'book and you change OS!!!
It would be really good for watching/doing stuff you'd rather not other people know about! When you heard someone coming, rather than having to faff about closing windows etc you can just change desktops really quick... note: this post was inspired by the zoo magazine thread and is not based on any true stories, lol
I followed the step by step thing on the linked forum post with all the images. Using desktopmanager. But as soon as I perl that smack.pl file.. it takes a minute then it says in the terminal that it should work.. but a few moments later my powerbook just freezes.. and I have to shut it down (using the powerbutton). So that aint that good.. I tried changing the settings a few times, but now I'm sick of having to turn it off every time.. L
using the installer I got from Comment 182 from the above-linked blog worked like a charm for me. I just downloaded AMSTracker, copied it to the "smackbook/smackbook/" folder from the file linked in comment 182. Then I copied the whole "smackbook" folder (with sub folders "smackbook" and "__MACOSX") into /Library/StartupItems It asked for a password, and I provided it. Then, I went to system preferences>Accounts>Login Items> and added "Desktop Manager" from /Library/StartupItems/smackbook/smackbook/ Rebooted, it told me something wasn't set right, I clicked "fix" and rebooted again, and now, when I want to play with it, I just open a terminal, and change to "/Library/StartupItems/smackbook/smackbook" and type "perl smack.pl" (I'm sure I could write a shell script that executed that file, but I'm new to apple, and am lazy) I also reccomend navigating in the terminal by typing: Code: cd /{enter} cd Li{tab}St{tab}sm{tab}s{tab}{enter} Using tab in the command line is awsome! You can even then just type perl sm{tab}{enter} to launch it. Or manually type out "perl smack.pl"{enter} if you don't like the tab key. I installed it (as described above) and when I took the laptop across the room to show my wife, it changed screens at least 15 times in 10 steps... So I guess it depends on the version you are using.
