I want to build myself a mini-PC based off of battery power, like an OQO. I need a small motherboard that can a) handle XP, b) takes up as little space as possible, and b) uses as little power as possible.
Just a couple of quick thoughts: Have you looked at via chipsets/motherboards, and have you considered ripping the guts out of a broken laptop off of ebay?
www.mini-itx.com .., but from what ive heard the 10000+ motherboards by via are pretty good, will run xp, and many will run w/ the dc-dc powersupply snapin, taking even less power since there is no transformer power drain
what you need is a sbc aka single board computer.... they come in 3.5" and 2.5" formats (i.e. hdd sizes) google it
IIRC, the Geodes are horridly underpowered, and run their own proprietary OS, and are impossible (or next to) to install anything else on. EDIT: Although, looking at the image location (bad, bad hotlinking btw ), I would guess it is possible to put linux on it. Still, wouldn't recommend it
Nano ITX is pretty much as small as they get, measuring only 120 x 120mm. There's some pictures for you http://www.mini-itx.com/news/computex2003-1/
