cheers fly--i have bought 6 from a guy in the states----sort of the us answer to mapper's cheap cc's, got a multitude that should touch down here by weds---if they are any good i may start buyin em in bulk(passin em on to good ole uk folk)---payin 30 quid plus for em really sux:/ unless anyone knows ppl at vellemans and can get them that way??--hehe let us know how u get on fly--plus which mappers branch u work at?---
Just checked Maplin, they do do the neon lights, it's just that the prices have gone up to £20 for 12" and £25 for 24" Codes are: 12" NA68Y 24" NA67X
but no cold cathodes??!!---i am looking at importin them still--prolly around 20 quid for a normal cc, 15 for the mini ones----
my Maplin cathode story! went into my local (Thurrock/Lakeside) and saw the nice Lian Li case with a green light in it and noticed that the tubes and power things were dirt cheap compared to the prices i'd seen on the net so i decided to get one. walked up to the components desk and this was the conversation: ME "have you got any of those green lights from the computer case in stock?" maplin guy (MG) "you don't want to talk to me cos i'll just get angry, do you want to talk to me?" ME "er...no" MG *shouts something across the store* there's no reply from whoever he's shouting at. MG "if you go and speak to wayne he can help you" ME "right"..."have you got blah blah blah" MG2 "yes we've got a few in stock...in pink" ME "when are you going to get anymore in?" MG2 "I don't know, and when we ever get them in they're always broken anyway" ME "er...okay then...thanks (?)" So maplin (who never seem to have whatever i want in stock) yet again astound me with their friendly staff, efficient stock replinishing skills and useful website! If anyone else knows of anywhere to get CC tubes from at Maplin prices lemme know!
Maplin have discontinued the cold cathodes because they broke too much. Thats their corperate line, so they are probably just getting rid of left over stock now.
so does anybody think they would be interested in getting them via the US via me?---be cheaper than buying them from uk based stores:/--getting my first consignment this week--need to check quality etc and the packaging they arive in etc---I have been assured that they are really good! mail me ajordan@ie.com
right----there is no way i can b maplins cheap----buuuuut full kitz inc switch---rocker type uv cc full £22.00 coloured normal cc full kit £20.00 mini 4 inch full kit(not UV) coloured £17.00 all inc postage-----need to see what sort of interest is gunna go on b4 i stick my neck out and order seen too many burnt fingers b4---
u need to keep readin the thread fly--i have had numerous conversations with yer head office--they are clearing down existing stock--ie they are not reselling hte velleman cc's anymore--prolly cos they are too cheap!!!!
For gods sake, Fly whats the story with these things, coz i broke both of mine... I dont beleive the company could discontinue them due to breakage. Mine took quite a pounding, its only coz i bent them a little to far (dont ask) to fit them into a tght corner of the case. FLY if mappers still sell them can you check with the unhapful staff at nottingham superstore. Coz i dont wanna buy the same things from else where for double the cost
