Lucky you !! I want one but no carrier has it here for some @$#% reason :wallbash:
The only HTC they have are old Touch and whatnot ...

As for battery life, I have an old Nokia which I need to charge about once a month. I only use it as an alarm clock however so that's why it won't die :D

I hate this current trend of poor battery life, especially for these lifestyle devices where you grow to rely on them totally for all sorts of everyday uses. I would sacrifice a couple of mm of thickness on my phone for better battery life.

I'm leaning towards the Galaxy S for my next phone, although I'm not convinced how good it is yet. I keep reading about worries of build-quality and a plastic feel, but I really don't like the HTC range atm. Four buttons on the front just looks tacky imo.

From my experiences with the 3G, no he doesn't. :p

It's actually pretty good, it doesn't really feel that plasticy to me (at least, not enough to want me to return it and get a different phone), I have also dropped it from about waist height onto my front patio, the back cover and battery did come out, but no scratches anywhere to be seen. I don't plan on doing that again though :p

The music player is a bit sluggish and it doesn't blast my ears enough for my liking (though that probably for the best :D). It can sometimes be a little sluggish in general though that's probably cos I haven't installed any task manager apps or anything on it yet.

The screen is really nice, disappointingly it's better than the monitor I currently use for my PC :grr:

Also picked up Beautiful Widgets off the market for only about a euro so I've got a nice HTC style weather clock that has about a bazillion different skins you can use.

I wouldn't say it's the dogs bollocks but it's pretty close and for a whole zero pounds on contract I'm not complaining :D Also getting the first 11 months half price so it's only costing me a whole £2.50 extra a month than my previous bog standard phone contract.

I know what you mean about battery life, I wouldn't mind a bit more thickness for more life, I just had it running for two days though, using the mp3 player a lot.

    Nokia E71, Symbian R3 (i think)
Fave things to do with it? Call, Text (qwerty = win)
Battery life: about 2 days, medium usage. 3 Days on Weekends when it gets used less

    What I dislike about it:
    - Dodgy bluetooth stack.
    - crap way of exiting apps
    - not as fast as I'd like it to be.
    - Menu organisation is a but rubbish

How many of you leave your wifi and 3G on 24hours around the clock. Surely it's best to turn wifi on when you need it.

That's why half your battery's last a day or two. On my Blackberry 9700 I leave my wifi and 3G off unless I am going to use it, on top of this I have turned my background lighting down to %20 and my battery lasts me 5 days.

Both are only on on demand.
There's no point in keeping them on on the E71. The E71 just gets scorcing hot if you leave the 3g on.

My Bluetooth is pretty much always on, though. That's due to the built-in hands free my car has, though.

    What you got? HTC Desire

What OS does it run on? Android 2.1 (roll on froyo + sense ui + full fat flash 10.1)

Fave uses? google maps + navigation + compass mode street view :D, photos + picasa sync 2 web, e-mail + exchange e-mail (remember to set to "as items arrive (push)" ;)), facebook, games, music.... wanting to do A2DP bluetooth once i get a decent car stereo.

Battery life? depends on data usage, had it last 3 days with the data only turned on when i was using it over this weekend.
using it with data on all day usually runs about 30-40% before bed and just leave it on charge overnight.

    What: HTC Desire
    OS: Android 2.1

Used mainly as a phone & music player, web browser, emails, f/book and the odd games for when i'm bored and away from the house.

Battery life usually about a day and a half normal use, however I've just got back from 5 days away at a festival in Spain with it still in the green. Flicking onto airplane mode when out of signal range, or overnight will massively help battery life as the GSM antennas use a surprising amount of battery when just idling or searching for a signal.

but way more expensive because you can't get it with a contract. Sorry but I won't pay 600+$ for a god damn phone

    iPhone 3GS

    iOS 4

Battery life is pretty shocking, have to charge it daily.

My dad has a HTC Desire and I'm very tempted by Android and I can see its the way of the future. Android just needs a really killer phone to take on the iPhone 4 to tempt me.

This is a slightly convoluted solution, but it still works -

Find a phone that's free contract and is also in demand.
    Buy it.
    Sell the handset on Ebay.
Use the profit to buy a Nexus One.

Yes, you still might end up paying the difference, but it's a lot better than just spending $600 on a phone.
