i am working on a project, and space is at an absolute premium (a watch), are SMD IC's made? i need a couple 4017's, one 4060, and two 4013's. also a toroidal transformer with an input of 1.5 or 3v and an output of about US house current
There is SMD IC's, you can get what you need, from digi-key, and once you find what you need, you can probably find it cheaper on mouser. As for the HV stuff, I would check out the flyback setup in disposable cameras. Not sure of the current output, but they put out ~300v, DC though. (might be able to get rid of a rectifier and get AC if you need it)
i got the new catalogs from both of them right next to me (think two thick phone book, [shameless plug] order them if you don't have them)[/shameless plug] i can't find anything though on digi-key, and honestly am lost on mouser, is discrete the same as surface mount?
I got both of them also, so don't feel too special The 4017 4060 and 4013 are 4000 serise CMOD logic, right? So they would be under Semiconductors-Standard Logic. Discrete semi-conductors are things like transistors, diodes, mosfets, etc. Since I'm at home now, I'll actually look up some P/Ns for you. for mouser, 511-4013BM 4013 soic-14 $.40 ST-Micro (brand) 511-4017BM 4017 soic-16 $.60 ST-Micro 511-4060BM 4060 soic-16 $.62 ST-Micro
if i were to turn around a 115VAC-1.5VDC so a AA battery powered the 1.5VDC end, would that put out 115VAC? to save power a couple watch batteries power the IC's and a AA powers the nixies with a momentary switch http://www.tube-tester.com/sites/nixie/nww/nixie-watch.htm <-- that is the link i meant to do, I'll also change the 1st post's linky (completely off topic) nitinol wire is so COOL!!!
What he has there is like a standard flyback, I'm not sure if you have to use a toridal transformer, because if you could use a small ferrite rod, that would be easier to wind.
you can get very tiny transformers (SM and smaller) from digikey -- there going to be MUCH smaller then winding your own (under inductors). how much current do the tubes need? because you can also get solid state HV inverters for small current applcations (also digikey) good luck
