How in the world do you get a smoothie to be... smooth?? I add about a cup of water, frozen mangos, pineapples, strawberries, a couple ice cubes and blend. Always comes out in little fruit bits and not like a liquid.

    I have a Ninja Pulse 700 blender.

You need an emulsifier - that or your blender is awful. My protip would be to add some mushy fruit (banana works good, things like applesauce work also if you're into that) and personallY i add tonnes of ice.

Have you tried adding a tub of greek yoghurt to it also? That tends to smoothify (proper chemists technical word that) the whole thing.

I am convinced it is the blade (all the way to the left). It doesn't pull to the bottom, it just spins in a furry of death with its' three sets of blades.

Yeah, fraid there's not a great deal you can do if the blender is insufficiently puréeing stuff. Try the yoghurt trick and see if that solves it. If it's still lumpy at that stage then I'd say you need a better blender (sorry).

Edit: I guess it would look like a gremlin that's got wet...

Edit 2: I now really want to rewatch gremlins :D

Hmm, now I want a smoothie.

As Spec said, try the yoghurt first because that's delicious anyway, if not, go and buy yourself a blender with even more death blades than you can imagine.

Also stay away from Morrisons "my first home" one. I bought one because I was skint but needed a blender (was banned from solid food for a week) and it almost turned into "my first household insurance claim" because the damn thing started smoking heavily and looked like it was going to explode when I made it blend spinach and garlic.

if it is something i would use on a regular basis i would invest in a good blender from either blendtec or vitamix.

start out simple. one cup ice. one cup milk, one cup soft fruit. one bannana.

if that doesnt turn out smooth.. get a new blender, as nothing will.

My Blendtec came with a thick recipe book, and it's pretty specific on the ratio's of what goes in.

too much fruit, and you get lumps.

too much water and you get soup.

    for example:

    ½ c vanilla yogurt
    ¾ c apple juice
    1 banana
    ¾ c frozen blueberries
    1½ c frozen strawberries

    gives just the right thickness
