is there any way to determine their resistance without the use of a multimeter it appears that they have some sort of color code?

Strabger things have happened. anyway the short and long of it is the stripes represent a coding system for the value. the thread has an explanation and how to read them. Its too long for me to go over again and i dont know it by heart anyway<hangs head in shame> hope that gets it strait
perhaps your are confused smt = surface mounting not the ones shaped like dildos that have little stripes the small boxes that lie flat on the pcb
well now that I re-read that i feel like a total idiot heres a few things i dug up that might help. sorry bout that page 1 page 2 page 3 they all list how to read SMT values. Im gonna go bang the cobwebs out now.
