So my sister brings me her itx pc so i could upgrade her pc with a spare ssd i had lying around and replace the fans with silent ones. First thing i did was hook it up with one of my monitors a plug the mains in. On pressing the power button i heard a lound click, fans spun vould here the hdd fire up, dvd drive ejected and leds on mobo were lit but it would not boot. At first i thought the mobo was fried so i ordered a new mobo plugged it in and i get the same thing. Fans etc spin mobonlights are on but no boot/post

Its an itx system and she always used on board gfx and sound so only bits i can change are mem and cpu and i get the same thing.
is it possible the cpu vould be the issue?

You need to get to explain: would not boot. I assume there is no output from your monitor? If there is an output on the monitor what is it?

If it is no output you will need to consult the manual. Some boards have an led or code display that will indicate the error that is occurring. Otherwise you will need to attach a speaker to the front panel header and listen for the error code that will be a number of beeps.

If you cannot diagnose using the above, in my experience the most common reason for not displaying or booting is badly seated or failed RAM, particularly on ITX boards where one of the clamps is fixed. Really the inspect the slots, on a fixed slot you must seat the ram at an angle with the fixed end in first, then firmly push the RAM into the clot until the other clamp is secure, it is so easy to miss even for seasoned pc builders. Try booting the system with a single stick of memory if you have several, then rotate the RAM, if it boots on all sticks except 1 then there is a clear culprit.

If it is an LED code and you have confirmed it is good then you should have a picture! Have you tested the monitor or cable, are you sure those work?

well found what the problem of the second board, my 6yr old son looked at the pc all apart then mentioned he had trouble fitting the cpu, while i was making my selfs a cuppa when i first assembled it. removed the cpu to see a few bent pins. tried the previous mobo still no joy. not got anything else to try the mem and cpu on as my pcs are mainly a couple of nucs and a gaming lappy.

will be putting them on the market place if anyone is interested.
