The recent Eyefinity review has got me curious about actually how many people use multiple monitor setups. Personally I have my 30" main monitor with a small 15.4". Apart from Supreme Commander, where I use the smaller monitor as a minimap, I use the smaller screen to monitor stuff (temps, usage etc.) during games. When I'm working, I use it to read an extra word/PDF document. Also, if it wasn't for the fact that it was an old monitor that was going to get thrown out anyway, I wouldn't bother having it. Anyway, looking forward to discussion!
i have 2 23" Samsungs, but when my bonus comes at the end of the month ill be getting a third plus a HD5870 to run them. im curious to see how much of a difference 3 monitors makes compared to 2. the jump up from 1 to 2 was massive and i couldnt go back.
im like you - i prefer the supcom way of doing things (ie with minimap on 2nd display). so usually when gaming i only use the one monitor unless the game supports dual screens (and uses them well). the dual screens mostly kicks in when im doing work or surfing - means i can have a 2nd document on the 2nd monitor, or a full screen movie or whatever. I used to have 2 mismatched screens, but i replaced the 2nd one in preparation for eyefinity.
Voted 4+ :/ I use 3 matched screens for gaming, 1 42" display positioned above for videos, with a projector and monitor located in the living room from extended VGA cables for when I have guests round so that we dont have to pile into the pc room, these however are usually diabled in windows till I need them. As I use an entirely Nvidia gfx card selection I use the SoftTH solution to get games working on 3 screens. SoftTH is like a software version of the matrox tripple head 2 go device, passing data over the PCI-E bus to extra gfx cards to display the 3rd screen for the games.
I have a Samsung T260 (25,5"), I can't imagine myself gaming on a pc with eyefinity because of the bezels of the monitors. IMHO one big screen for games and a small screen for seeing some pdf's, talking in msn or browse the internet while playing in the big screen works for me...
use to use a 24in plus a 17in, but found that the 17in was really just a waste of power and after a year i decide to head back to a single monitor. As for the future i will move to a 30in Dell or NEC if i get that itch for more space.
Always had a 20 inch for the last year or sousing a 1680x1050 but now getting a 24inch with the 1900x1200 resolution. Need to see what it looks like in game and the second screen with my teamspeak running as well a xfire and msn
Only 1 24" monitor, I'd love to have another but I don't have $500 just laying around right now to buy another
I use a single when gaming, and three when actually using the machine for something productive. I've a 24" Dell U2410 as my main monitor, and my only one when gaming. When I'm working, I throw word docs/pdfs/etc. on either of the two old 17" Dell monitors I have set up in vertical orientation on either side of the 24" screen. Set up that way they are very nearly the same height as the main monitor, and just the right size to display an entire page in word. -Tuthmose
1 proper 24". If 1920x1200 screens came in dirt cheap TN-variety, I would already have grabbed another one, but A) I don't really have money or need for a second screen with good colors and B) I'm NOT going to take a 1080p screen, so I'm just going to use the single 24" until I can afford a 30" for a new primary. After that the current 24" will either move to other use or be sold, I just don't feel like two or more large screens gives ANY advantage in my use: on desktop use the screens would have to be in pivot or too wide and in gaming I can't stand the bezels.
I use 3. 1x30" 3008wfp 2x20" u2010 in portrait either side of my 30". http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=180303 Simon
I have to admit, I've been contemplating that set up for a while now but I still can't forgive the bezels. Having said that, they'll probably be in the peripheral right? Hmm...*runs off to check 20" prices*
^ my dream setup ^ currently just 1 single 24inch, gave my secondary 17inch to someone else as it's not doing much, off most of the time. preferably a 30inch with a (or two) 22/24 inch in portrait mode, when i start my job after graduation this year, the 30incher will be the first thing i get.
