The cheapo stock lens has done me well since I bought my canon camera but the zoom stock sticking half way round. Bought a couple of new to me lenses from cex and they are fine so i decided i have nothing to lose so proceed to dismantle the stock lens. only really wanted to see if it was a lose screw but ended up completely dismantling the lens, all was going well until i separated the two parts of the zoom mechanism not noticing there was still a ribbon cable connected.... well that's the auto focus done for then. Now I'm trying to reassemble it and use it with manual zoom but what a nightmare, think its going to be the fourth attempt as things need to be lined up properly which they aren't at present. Ah well learning curve and all that. Anyone now of a decent aftermarket 18-55 lens that doesn't break the bank, I bought a canon 50mm lens which seemed to be recommended but the missus is complaining about it becuase it wont focus on absolutely everything plus another stock 18-55mm
