I cant believe anyone would of looked at this film and given it a thumbs up to be made. The script is very laughable and has nothing to do with doom other than a ripoff of the characters. Some of the CG was done well, but when it came to suits, you could clearly tell it was a guy in a suit..and it was especially funny how they ran/hobbled away. Not only this but they transformed the creatures enough that they dont really look like there from the game, pinky..has hind leg wheels, the zombies look nothing more than people in bad makeup (unlike there grotesqueness from the game), the zombie with a chainsaw is now a hellknight with a chainsaw, the imp's look horribly stupid. Speaking of hillarity, i really loved when the hellknight jumped down onto the grenade, looked down at it, then looked back at the camera with an 'uh oh' face before it exploded. But enough about the hillarity, theres also stupidity. The first stupid thing has to be the virus, there are no demons or hell (other than references) but a 24th gene that once injected either turns you into a demon or superman. See where i'm going with how stupid this is? But it doesnt end there. Along with The Rocks HORRIBLE acting, we have the 'hero' turning into an insane loonatic who wants to kill everyone, for not aparent reason other than 'they might be infected' and this includes his own soliders (Yea, why did he have to kill the kid? no reason really). So i came in expecting something remotely to dooms storyline, and i get Resident Evil in space, really great hollywood. Pass it up guys, its pretty horrible.
Well i actually like The Rocks acting in other movies (Preferably The Rundown), i just think it was a really bad movie for him.
Sounds like a typical game-to-film conversion I don't see why they make these terrible game-based films. If they just kept the storyline faithful to the game, it would at least keep gamers happy instead of making EVERYONE think it's awful.
I watched it to see if it was as **** as it looked in the trailer. Sadly it was worse than i had first thought. Utter pap in my opinion. Alex
I didn't hate it that much, but I had expected nothing more than go in and shoot anything that moves, and I got just that. I still say it had a better storyline than the game, but, then again, I could see the movie, not just blackness. Storline still sucked, along with the acting, but still better than the game imo. Loved that whole Dr. Carmack thing though. pwnd for the game, pwnd in the movie. Just plain evil funny. Quite resident evil though. Pretty similar thing with the infection too, how it's either help you or zombify you.
imo the story line to the game is so much better. they really did spoil it which is abit of a shame really. i can't believe they didn't realise how bad it was when they were doing editing and things. i would have rather them hold back the release date by a few years and just do it again than have this.
surely it wouldn't have been anymore difficult to give it the proper storyline? the cg is more than capable of creating the imagery of hell/cyberdemon etc. the set was pretty accurate for the most part and the weapons were good apart from the bfg which was nice but wrong. hellknights were too small, pinky was however rather good (despite having wheels...)
I didnt expect an Oscar winer here! Its gratuitous violence and monsters and a hot woman. What more could you want? Doom fanboys
Amen to that I remember watching an interview with The Rock saying it's a "Sci-Fi Action Thriller". To me I just found it comedy... especially during the first person shooter segment where the zombies laugh before getting shot LOL. Pure fanservice haha. Other than that, there haven't been any real good game-movies are there (besides FF7:AC imo). At least this film isn't be as bad as Dead or Alive will be, but let's not get off topic...
Now a days when it comes to Game - Movie conversions I take them very very lightly. I gave up expecting them to match the game they are based on after Resident Evil. I hate that in nearly every Game - Movie conversion they change almost all key parts of said game for no reason. As a movie, Doom was crap, utter crap, as a movie based on a game, still crap but not as bad.
