Quite a while back the news went around that the coolest input device ever(tm) would be available ... Now, this being an enthusiast site I guess there should be a very few people who own one or know someone who owns one. (Or know someone whos rich brother owns one ) I mean. There generally used to be a few people around with overfull bank accounts. So. Any user experiences as to the Optimus Maximus keyboard? cheers, -btb-
ah the infamous OLED keyboard of bodom many a tech knight has sat round the camp fire regalling its l44t status and proclaiming that they themselves can only hope to one day own such a peripheral. alas the majestic keyboard has never landed on the fair shore of blighty, but i did hear of one soothsayer at a technology expo claiming the board would be shipped as a modular system that could be updated when the user could afford the figgins needed to unleash the might of a fully OLED keyboard! :edit: jeez im bored
The trouble is that, however cool it would be at the time, you'd unpack the keyboard, plug it in and just after installing the drivers it'd transform into a truck cab and trailer and zoom off into the sunset, ne'er to be seen again.
I once used one when I was at the porn star meet in a hot tub full of hundred dollar bills on the moon.
Funny thing, as soon as I read the topic I knew which keyboard was meant... Meanwhile I've moved on. The Optimus Maximus is old hat. Enter the Optimus Tactus!
I don't get it, why would you wanna watch a video on your keyboard when you have a monitor right in front of you?
This one seems to be more functional than the Optimus, really. Imagine using this with for example photoshop. That would be awesome! Or even gaming. You could configure the keys to exactly fit your hand. Only problem is the lack of tactile feedback, though.
Exactly.... configuring it to fit your hand for gaming, or as you say, a dedicated PS keyboard would be seriously good.... but a flat, touch sensitive keyboard for anything else? Err.. anyone remember the Atari 400? LOL But somehow..... A dedicated PS input device. A complete extravagance...but soooo cool.
I'm not sure if any of Art Lebedev's keyboard designs can be called functional (or affordable, for that matter ). But that's not really the point, is it? It's all about the "cool" and "want" factors, and he really has nailed those parts completely. I do have a secret hope, though, that at one point he'll get into talks with e.g. Logitech on massproducing more functional variants of his designs at affordable prices. Probably won't happen for some time, though, if ever.
