So I get a phone call from Virgin Media tonight to confirm that Sky have requested to port my phone number over. I got chatting and mentioned the pretty poor offer from their retentions dept after 9 years of being a good customer. He said he'd get someone to call me back, and within a couple of minutes of hanging up the phone rang...

Got an upgrade to 200Mb, with TV/Phone services remaining the same. They've also upgraded me to the AC Superhub which should arrive on Wednesday.

New price: £75.60 for 12 months and they'll write to me at the end of the term with a new offer.

Pretty chuffed with the saving, it's just a bit of a shame that I had to call their bluff on leaving them. Now I've gotta call Sky and let them down gently!

 

Nice! I don't know why it was so high to start with, Good deal you got yourself there though Mine is about a tenner more than that.

New only fraid mate. Current customers will get retention deals when they go to leave though.

 

To be honest, existing customers can get some half price offers on stuff like Movies and Sports just by logging into MySky and taking the offer. Cancel the addon package around 6 months and they'll extend the half price offer automatically through the website.

 

Yeah...an extra £12 a month and £250 to upgrade the box. It looks like a useful box, and the ability to record 3-4 programs at a time would come in handy, but not at that price

 

With the exception of UHD content, my Tivo ticks all the necessary boxes. I'm interested to see what Virgin will do on the UHD side of things in the not too distant future.
