Who cares, starting a thread to say you've been persuaded to leave is about as bitchy as it gets.

    That's right, i'm a bitch too :hehe:

Just look at the posts made by Canon and erratum1 in this thread as a good example. I'm sure they have some bitchy comment about what I'm writing now as well. (There are other members known for this behavior as well, but I'll keep to those in this thread)

It's not that the comments made by these people is that bad by themselves, but when they are constantly slightly rude threads will quickly turn into flame wars. It's frustrating not being able to have a serious discussion where people can disagree without being condescending. One can wonder how there people are in real life.

I'm sure this is one of several reasons, though.

Anyway, I'm sure this thread will derail after this as well... I just hope I'm wrong on that account for one.

Just promise us you'll at least drop a line if, say, you get whacked by another bus.

This, I'm afraid  The newer guys just don't really seem to get the whole "we're a tight community and we happen to be the friendliest one on the whole Internets" thing. I can't remember the last time I felt proud of bit-tech as a whole and the sole reason for that in my case is some of the members and their couldn't give a **** attitude.

@erratum1: Here's a dose of reality for you. Mankz has every right to post a goodbye thread on the forum if he is leaving and doesn't want to participate any more. There are several good reasons for doing so - he has friends here who would wonder what happened to him if he disappeared all of a sudden without a word of explanation. I am one of those people. If Mankz didn't post for a few weeks I'd notice and wonder if something had happened. Also, given that the vast majority of people who have posted in this thread (yourself excluded) have said some very nice heartfelt words about the guy means that the vast majority of the community (again, yourself not included) like him enough to miss him and feel it appropriate to say a few words of goodbye and thank him for his contribution to the site and forum over the years. What I'm really trying to say in a roundabout way is; you're wrong. Everyone else here is being civil and friendly and there was no need for you to post what you did. You're wrong, everyone else who is not you is right and you're just going to have to deal with it.

Too harsh? I think not. Only the best for "The Mankz". :p

One of the things is what he ^ did. Stirring the pot for no reason, hunting for something negative to say in a thread. Yes, everyone is entitled to an opinion and everyone is entitled to a little rant every now and then, but there are intelligent, civil, orderly ways of having a discussion where not every party involved has the same view, and then there's the way things sometimes go around here:

OP: I have an opinion on something. This is my opinion. What do you guys think?
Member #1: Yeah, that's a good opinion OP, thanks for raising this interesting topic of discussion.
Member #2: OMGWTFBBQ just leave if you feel that way, you're wrong OMG you don't know how wrong you are! You should ragequit life!
Member #3: Hmm I don't quite agree with what you're saying, OP. Let me explain why and my views on the subject: Explanation.
OP: Ah yes, I can see how you could think that. Good point. *politely ignores flamer*

Now, it's not always as obnoxious or easy to spot as that, but there are just a handful of people around these threads who really irritate me by throwing snide remarks into discussions that have no need for sarcasm, jokes, taunts etc. People have to remember this is a forum and very few of us actually know each other, so you have to be open minded about your opinion of other people's opinions and how that person is in the flesh. It's incredibly hard to convey personality on a forum, which is why we need to all stay friendly and open minded (and also why we need more bit-tech gathers/meets!).

A good example of this is the religion/christianity discussion that Journeyer and I had a while back in the "Hi Everybody" thread. That was what I would call a lengthy discussion, but we did it in a professional, civil way and nobody fell out over it. There were several posts in the middle of ours that contained snide remarks and general piss taking, but the discussion between Journeyer and I was fine.

What I'm really trying to say in a roundabout way is: Everyone who likes being a dick and annoying the good citizens of bit-tech needs to stop being a dick and play nice.

I'm half joking about that and half not.

I did't know you or see any of your posts. But to see a member with so many posts and been here for many years it makes me think... this place must have gone downhill.

As a new member... may I ask..... What forum are you moving to?
Is this really the right forum for me to start getting into if I see old members saying its gone downhill?

Fair enough, I have a right to my opinion as do you.

If you have friends on here you can PM them, I just think it's a bit self indulgent to create a thread about not posting anymore.

Bit tech has thousands of members, what if they all did that, although that would be funny.

Everyone wouldn't post a thread about leaving though. If you notice it's the only ones who have been here a long time, made lots of posts and nearly everyone on the site has come into contact with said person for some reason or another.

It's like if I left, pointless me posting a thread because there's a grand total of about 3 people who'd notice or care lol Whereas people like Mankz, nearly everyone knows/has read their comments and because of this has quite a few friends to miss him. So it makes logical sense to post a thread, which everyone can read rather than PM every person he'd like to say goodbye to.

This is not based on Mankz's decision, more the ensuing discussion in this thread. I've found there's a lot of intelligent thinkers on here and I can't think of a single thread I've read that's descended into flame wars.

But what I have found is that there are some sensitive souls here, some of whom are very quick to react negatively and jump on someone for a post, often with a hint of self-righteousness.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

So long Mankz, and may your travels be guided with gentle winds and fair seas. I will miss the occassional glimpses of your wall of flesh, and I hope that you will pop your head around this corner of the internets every once in a while. And remember; the answer is always given by the question "what do you get if you multiply six by nine?".

Sad to see another great member leave. I've not been on bit-tech long but was on cpc before the merge. I feel this had an impact on bit-tech and not for the better by the sounds of it.

I think this site no longer has the great friendships and morals it had before.

Also agree on the reviews that feel shallow and rushed. I consider this site a beginners site now for people who want to get into computer building. I found this site fantastic to start with but once my knowledge of computing became efficient enough I no longer found I enjoyed coming here.

Once again though it's sad to see some good people leaving.
