I somehow got back into Subnautica: Below Zero.

Definitely has its flaws compared to the first game. The Sea Truck is a bit of a crappy vehicle, I much preferred the Cyclops and the Sea Moth. There’s a massive over-reliance on lead, which cannot be gained in large quantities.

But the biggest complaint I have - and this goes for both Subnautica games - is the lack of in-game map. I know it’s a deliberate design choice, but it ruins the suspension of disbelief IMO. This far-future version of humanity has mastered inter-stellar travel. It has invented replicators - machines that can create complex machinery and materials from a handful of raw components. I even have a hand-held replicator that can spawn massive structures into being. Are you seriously telling me that a civilisation this advanced is incapable of developing a freakin’ mapping system?! In comparison to this version of humanity, we are basically primates banging rocks together, and yet my phone - my bloody phone - has a LIDAR scanner in it!

    Deep breath…

I am enjoying it nonetheless . I think I’m pretty much at the point I got to last time, so it’ll be good to get this one finished and checked off the list

    Consider that one checked off.

Yeah, I did enjoy that one. Nowhere near as tense as the first game, and not nearly as many deep and terrifyingly black caverns. But enjoyable nonetheless.

Lego Marvels 2 and also Movie 2 now complete. Both due to be booted off PSPlus later this month, so thought I'd get them done. The other two going are MotoGP'24, which I'm not fussed, but I'd love to give Walkabout Golf in VR at least a quick go.

My OH has been watching a “let’s play” of Disco Elysium on YouTube. The streamer is a therapist, so most of the videos are spent deconstructing and explaining the psychology woven into the game.

But of course, this has made me want to play it again. So I did, and literally just finished it.

Absolutely beautiful game. It’s incredibly bleak, thoroughly depressing at times, but the artwork & visuals are stunning, and the writing is sublime. The internal monologues & thought processes of the protagonist are an incredible representation of the thoughts & ideas that fizz around inside our own skulls. It’s absolutely evident that the writers drew on their own experiences with alcoholism and addiction, it’s very well depicted.

It’s a shame about all the internal wranglings & shenanigans that led to the studio tearing itself apart. I don’t think we’ll ever get another game like this from whatever husk of its former self remains.

And no matter how I try to play the game, I can’t help end up being either the Sorry Cop or the Boring Cop :hehe:

I'm not going to post any spoilers, but if you do play it, or want to play it again, make sure you do the cryptozoology stuff! :thumb:

    SPACE MARINE II

This game is arguably the reason that I went and did a complete overhaul of my gaming rig...

And it is everything that I hoped it would be, and more:

Everything is just right. The intro is hardcore straight into 40K lore, and every bolter round I fire hits me with a wave of bass thanks to the subwoofer I bought. Just wish I'd known about the 4K texture pack update BEFORE getting through the prologue. Never mind, a good chance to take a break and calm down before playing again.

    Now, if you'll excuse me...
