    Subnautica, the OG.

I was conflicted about buying Subnautica 2 in early access. On the one hand, it helps Unknown Worlds hit the revenue target that triggers the bonus payout that Krafton’s CEO worked so hard to try and prevent; but on the other hand, buying it gives money to Krafton.

Decided to play the original again to see if it sparked interest. Played it for about 5 minutes before deciding that yes, I will be buying Subnautica 2 in early access. But now I’m invested again, so I want to finish the original first. I played Sub Zero not too long ago, so I’m not terribly bothered about that one.

Though I am totally using a map mod… I know the gameplay rationale behind not including a map, but for me it still breaks my suspension of disbelief. I refuse to believe that among all this incredibly advanced technology, no one ever bothered to invent maps. Though I’ve hardly actually used it; between the beacons and my own “oh GOD I remember this bloody place!” recollection, I’ve managed just fine.

EDIT: And I really need to look up some visual fidelity mods… The scenery pop-in and short draw distance is particularly infuriating.

Krafton lost the court case and the developer got the rights. They self-published Subnautica 2. Should be good to go.

Aye, I’ve been following the case

Unknown Worlds is indeed listed as the publisher, but Krafton still owns the studio, so they still stand to benefit financially.

Though Unknown Worlds is not likely to remain under Krafton’s ownership for much longer, since this is by far not the end of the legal wranglings.

In any case, it’s a moot point in terms of me buying the sequel

Starship 64 Aka the Starfox 64 PC port.

This is how the Starfox 64 remaster(s) should have been, exaclty the same game but at a rock solid 60fps.
However, the unintended side effect of it running at a flat 60fps is that it makes the game a lot harder. In the original some of the encounters were clearly designed to account for the N64's famous slowdown providing a bit of slow motion. In this version, better have sharp fangs Fox.
Also, it needs to played with the N64 controller, using the Xbox layout and stick just doesn't quite work.

If you’re that keen, get yourself a modern N64 controller that works via Bluetooth :thumb:. Nintendo make their own: if you have a paid Nintendo Switch Online subscription, you can get it directly from Nintendo for £40. Closer to £70 from places like Amazon.

    I've got better than that.
    One of these: https://www.raphnet-tech.com/products/n64_usb_adapter_gen3/index.php
And several steel bowl modded N64 controllers. I haven't quite gone down the micro switch button replacement/brassgears/steel stick rabbit hole. But the steel bowl replacement makes the N64 stick so much better than the plastic on plastic original deisgn.

Honestly… I think the only “retro” controller I can stand to use for any length of time is the PlayStation controller, either the stick-less OG or the Dual Shock. It may have been ahead of its time, but I never got on with the N64 controller.

    Red Dead Redemption

Mmm. Played 90ish minutes but the graphics unfortunately are now rather dated and assigning keys is a bit weird. The tutorials are also a bit crap: I died in my first duel (though I'm trying to play it on "Hardcore"). Gonna park this for now.

    Metal Eden

Quite pretty clean cyberpunk Doom Eternal wannabe. Seems fun, but not what I'm in the mood for currently. Parked.

    Aliens Dark Descent

Just completed the first mission, and am impressed so far. A thorough but unobtrusive rolling tutorial is most welcome, and I never thought a top down squad based strategy game could be this tense. For those of you worried about extreme micromanagement, don't be put off: you control the squad as a whole rather than individually, so gameplay flows smoothly. Here's the game I'll be sticking with.

Finished Subnautica a little while back, have no desire to play Sub Zero again, and I’ve seen a few things about Subnautica 2 that put me off buying into Early Access at this point.

Went through XCOM: Enemy Unknown/Within again, trying to polish off some achievements. Got bored of waiting for the right conditions, so just finished it. Once again, by the end of the game my roster was full of unstoppable death machines who could cloak themselves, traverse all terrain, and mind control any non-mech opponent they pleased. Sectopods could still give me a run for my money, but usually only when I got careless.

So I am currently back on XCOM 2, and holy balls it is unrelenting. Though I do enjoy this game, a lot. The tweaks made to the soldier classes and abilities, and the overall gameplay shakeup, are most welcome. The Ranger’s melee attack is particularly devastating, and the Sharpshooter’s pistol skill tree gives them a ton over versatility compared to the earlier game’s routine of: get sniper to highest possible ground (or give them an Archangel flight suit), camp for the entire mission. I’m starting to get to a decent point in the tech tree now, missions are starting to feel less like a constant slog. But the game always keeps tricks up its sleeve, I know I’ve got some really nasty opponents waiting in the wings.

The new bond game. Only only 4th mission but really enjoying it. Nice to see the team behind Hitman, doing something new. Ive enjoyed the few hours I've put in so far, it's bond the early years and so far I'd recommend it.

Same, also enjoying the new 007 origin story. There's slightly more hand holding than Hitman games. But 007 is much more interesting as a playable character than Agent 47.

And visiting Q's lab between missions makes the pacing feels perfect.

I played Citizen Sleeper again recently, ahead of playing the sequel, and the plan was to jump back into FFVII Rebirth after that.

But then I stumbled across a video talking about how awesome the Persona 5 soundtrack is…

    So…

    Now I’m playing Persona 5 Royal again…

Despite already having done literally everything there is to do in this game across ~190hrs…

But overall it’s just a very well executed game with a story that, despite the cliched trappings of “Japanese high schoolers”, I find quite compelling.

With the incoming new tombraider game, I decided it was time to pick up the old ones back up, ones I played for a while enjoyed, got busy and never returned too, I do this to so many games, the number I have at about 50-75% completion is ridiculous, so I've told myself I can't buy another Tombraider until I finish the last lot, so back to 2013 :D

On the plus side, hardware is so good now you can play this on about 10w on a handheld, I remember when it used to require a strong PC to do the hair FX etc, march of progress :D will probably play lovely emulated on a phone now :D

Will need to do some reading of guide to refresh my mind of the stories.

I bought No Mans Sky on Steam, when it was really cheap some years ago. Really should have another go at it...

yeah it is now way more than the game that was originally promised and is worth another attempt. and they keep adding new things every few months. hello games could easily stop supporting and move onto something else but they keep going while working on light no fire which is highly suspected to be based in the NMS universe some how while just being based on one planet. NMS is my most played game to date.

Just had a look in my Steam games and, seems I removed it because I had not played for a long time, so a long download on slow FTTC needed. No great hurry but, could do with something different to play.

BTW, my most played game is World of Warcraft, played every day for several years, then a few months every year. Total hours on WoW are likely more than all the other games I have played put together! Not played for several months now.

I think WoW has lost direction, gone stale and, is oversimplified to pander to those players who want max-level NOW. All the challenge has gone out of levelling and guilds are all dead or dying, so forget dungeons and raids, at least if you want to enjoy doing them.

If you want an MMORPG that is like playing a solo game, TESO and Rift have you covered and, their subs are optional, not complusory.
