Space trucking in Elite Dangerous again. Well... more of a space cruise liner than a space truck, since I've stripped all my cargo modules and replaced them with passenger cabins. Far more lucrative...

So easy to lose time in it, and it's really making me miss having a VR headset...

X4 Foundations when i download it and get time. Squeezed the buy into the winter sale.

Hoping it's had enough time to knock out a few bugs, X Rebirth never appealed but loved TC.

Started playing Yakuza Kiwami over the weekend as I was gifted a copy, so far it's been a little bit of a linear experience... previously I've only played a little bit of Song of Life on the PS4 so am not massively familiar with the series. Hoping it opens up a bit more so I can free roam and spend some more time on side activities instead of being forced to go from story mission to story mission.

Still playing a fair bit of X4 Foundations, settled in a nice part of space in one of the far corners and am slowly building up my empire to crush the Paranid before I turn my attention to the Xenon threat. Fancied a harder game so I've sided with the Holy Order of the Pontifex (HOP) faction as they're being attacked by pretty much everyone from the start of the game... plus I feel like I owe them something as I did start off my journey by stealing a couple of their ships whilst they were being assaulted by the Argon Federation.

X4 Foundations sort of sits somewhere in between Rebirth and Terran Conflict, it's got stuff like the highway system of Rebirth along with the visuals and flight controls but has gone back to you being able to hop into most ships and build vast fleets of ships & stations to dominate the universe.

At the moment the universe isn't overly diverse and it lacks a proper story to follow, there will hopefully be something a bit more concrete coming when 3.0 is out of Beta or when the Split DLC is released. For now there's a super brief bit of storyline to follow to get your first player HQ setup and then it's pretty much make up your own tale.

Highly recommend turning on the 3.0 Beta immediately as it contains a fair number of improvements... there's still some bugs that need to be ironed out but it's getting there.
Some of the bugs that still exist are stuff like mission items vanishing from your inventory after looting a lockbox (you can purchase the same items from various stations though so that's simple to fix), missions to hack stations can be a bit buggy too as sometimes the panel you were sent to hack doesn't exist (harder to get around that bug, all you can do is abandon those missions).

Thanks for that, some handy pointers.

I saw on the forum 3.0 beta was on the go, was umming and arring about that but after what you said i think i'll turn it on from the get go.

When the Split DLC finally come out it'll hopefully flesh it out a bit more and by then i should have got to grips with it.

TBH i think half of my enjoyment in TC was from pootling about listening to the music and just chilling when i fancied it :)

Control, brilliant plot, brilliant gameplay, no hand holding, stunning visuals and possibly one of the best gameplay segments (you know the one if you've played it) in recent memory.

my GOTY of 2019 hands down.

    Back in Elite: Dangerous.

I started off doing my usual passenger runs, until I read about asteroid core mining and void opals; one single mining run netted me over 150m credits... Nice... Damned tedious finding the right asteroids, but damned worth it.

I've got somewhere close to 500m credits in assets and cash now so it gives me a lot of flexibility to try out different play styles with quite low risk. I think I'm going to try and hit Elite in Trade so I can get the Founder's World permit and access Jameson Memorial. It's a bit of a trek from my "home" system, but it'll be nice to have a port where all ships and all modules are available without having to traipse about the place. Plus the combined 12.5% discount will be nice, especially when modules like A-class drives and thrusters are starting to cost 50m/100m+ for some of my ships...! I'd like to rank up with some of the Engineers also, but all that resource gathering looks tedious af.

Convinced my brother to pick up E: D+Horizons also, so it'll be good to have someone to fly with and do multi-crew/wing stuff.

I blitzed through Shadow of the Tomb Raider over new year. It was OK. I have fonder memories of the first reboot, but I went back to play it and just winced at the controls. The platforming bugs drove me to distraction at a couple of points (when I make a jump, don't let me take two steps then play the "you fell and died" animation, OK?) which seriously puts me off bothering to play it on max difficulty as the idea of replaying 20-odd minutes rather than a minute or so because it decided to post-fact kill me does not appeal. The music was a bit bland, and Lara's facial animation was not as varied as the first two games - she seemed to be either bored to tears or half asleep for many cutscenes. edit: also, at times I felt more like I was playing Skyrim than Tomb Raider.

I also really want to like Just Cause 4... but I can't get into it. The enemy response to anything seems way over the top - it escalates from Rico vs. one guy to all-out war with six enemy helicopters pouncing on the rebels in what seems like no time at all.

Bought FTL: Faster than Light in the Christmas sales.

Really enjoying it although it doesn't exactly push the limits of the 7980XE... (or my wife's Macbook air...) :p

Let me know what you think. I'm still bitter over how Rebirth turned out.

Only just fired it up and, tbh, and am still deciding how to map my hotas although i've managed to find myself on a mission already...

Yeah, so far so good i think. Being able to land on stations is novel, no idea about crafting on them or anything yet.

I think the jump drive has gone (did that go in rebirth?) but there's a hell load of stuff to look into (i mean do you jump from one sector to another by teleporting to another ship instead?). There are some of those highway things i've not seen before but the gates are there.

Yeah, i'll give it a good go soon but got friends and their kids over from NZ at the weekend so it'll have to wait.

Paused my play through of Yakuza on the weekend as I had the urge to play Sims 4 a little so spent some time building houses and playing around with the career stuff.
Also spent an of hours playing Guild of Dungeoneering, forgot how much I enjoyed the simplicity of that game.

Yeah at the moment there's no proper jump drive in X4 so you have to research teleporting and have ships docked at stations to jump between systems like that - there's a few jump drive mods kicking about, though haven't tested any of them myself.
I think they only apply to your ship though, so it doesn't bring back the old fun of jumping an entire fleet on top of your enemy.

It was handy in the middle of battles just to jump to another gate in the same sector to allow shields to recharge. I don't mind the highways per se but if it was just highways i'd be annoyed. It already feels a bit restrictive if i'm on them too long.

Anyhoo, managed to get an hour or two spare and have fumbled about. Spent a good ten minutes trying to get the NPC pilot of my second ship to get near to me so I could clamber in in my spacesuit.

So yeah, two or three hours in, not entirely sure what controls are what and what else is going on in the universe. Exactly what I like about X games

Oh and I appear to have got myself a station. So there's that.

Just have to get on the thing now....

Found this mod [link] which seems to do the trick to jumping you and anyone in your current squad to a location you set your guidance to on the map, just set a point on the map and then close the map and it asks you if you want to jump.
I've just given it a test in 3.0 and it seems to be working with the current version.

Completed The Outer Worlds last night after about 20 hours. It played like any other Fallout game I've ever played, I was annoyed by the difficulty in lining the cursor up to nick all the stuff, but I enjoyed it. I liked that it wasn't all drab browns. I also loved the dialogue. Definitely going to get another run through.

Played through the three most recent Tomb Raider games these past couple of months. Enjoyed it a lot, and am now back on The Witcher 3. After about 100 hours I'm about half-way done I suppose. I want to clear the maps of all question marks, complete the DLCs and get most (if not all) achievements before finishing the story. Maybe I'm done with it in time for Cyberpunk 2077.

Also enjoying playing The Raft multiplayer with the kids.
