Windows So, who bought Quake 4 today? Thoughts?

Whats the difference with the collectors edition? Additional features?

I am a little pissed off I can't play at the mo, all my friends here at uni don't have brilliant computers, except the one opposite me, except he's gone away this weekend.

But glad most people think its a good game.

 

Well what i can remember from looking at the box is that it contains the full version of Quake 2 aswell as both Q2 expansion packs, and other bits an bobs.

I was not impressed at all, in fact, I can say that IMO this game SUCKS.
I just don't like the gameplay at all, enemies are too stupid (AI), and some of the actual enemy characters are just silly.
It all feels too much like Unreal to me, and I despised that game.

no goame is without it's problems but i think the AI on some of the units is very good. The grunts are retarded but the later you get on the more advanced units do act like a team and hide etc.

One other thing i have found annoying and i found it in Halflife 2 as well . Is that everyone knows you and makes you out to be some real hard man but you have no idea why. It was the same it Half life 2, okay gordon would be known by the occasional few from his halflife one antics but everyone seems to think you're the long lost child of superman and wonderwoman.

I think the more I play it, the more obvious it's lack of depth is. I'm still really enjoying it, but the AI does start to annoy after a while. Also the on-rails sequences seems ripped straight from CoD.

playing it last night just got a little further after being turned strogg, i think this is an awesome game.

the AI on the enemies isn't really that bad either. excellent game imo.

 

Multiplayer is just awsome, period.

 

I have played a little bit of this at a m8s house (seeing I am on a dell PoS), Must say it is fricking awesome. I haven't played multi but the dynamics blew me away.

Very fun game. Only wish I could play it.

 

Not impressed at all, it's Doom3 all over again, walk along dark corridor out jumps scary thing, shoot it, walk along dark corridor.

 

I have quake 4 sitting on my desk, not touched it yet though. I'm still playing B&W2 and FEAR.

 

It looks like a mod for Doom3 ... Its ...mmmm... ugly?

Hmmm... got it yesterday, installed it this morning at 10 and now it's 10 in the eveneing and I've finished the game. Washed the dishes, took a shower, phoned some peeps and I'm still finished.

The first couple of levels are really nicely done, like the one with the trenches and the convoy. But that's about it. After that, the level design is the same as in Doom 3, which utterly sucks! Boring dark corridors, enemies jumping from out of nowhere in masses, bla bla bla... some cool ideas throughout the game though, like the transformation level... anyone say hacksaw!? ;-) Gross little things like the bodies used for waste disposal and stuff - gives you the creeps...

All in all I'd say it's better than Doom 3 but I'm going to delete it now... it's not good enough to be played twice imho. Still looking for something to beat HL2...

Im Getting it as soon as i can sell this blasted graphics card, i heard Great thing about this. shooting everything in site sounds like my kind of game! i'd much rather get this then F.E.A.R simply becuase fear is too scary for me lol, and i have loved evey quake yet! On a kind of review/interview i seen they tried to stay away from the quake 3 kind of thing and go back to how quake 2 was, i doubt it carries on from quake 3. Werent quake 3 just like a tournament thing? As for the graphics i thought it was built on the doom 3 engine so thats why it looks like doom3 somewhat!

Edit: Fred, Quake is not so much the singleplayer goodness. its the multiplay that people like! im not sure if its still happening but urban terror for quake 4 will be ****ing awsome!

 

I dont know whether or not to buy either Quake 4 or Fear, I will probably be disapointed with both as im a fussy git. The only game I play at the mo is BF2 and i've just started playing C.S 1.6 again (still hate public tho, too many idiots).

Hmmm... Far Cry is £11.99 at Play, is it any good?

Far Cry is awesome FIBRE+, definately get it. FEAR isn't that scary, just an overall creepy theme. Dunno how you can play 1.6, it actually gives me headaches from the graphics being so dated. It'd be one thing if they weren't decent at a point, but it's not like the retro games (if I dare say it) where it was actually about gameplay and not just graphics.

How's multiplayer in Q4? Fairly standard deathmatch and CTF type things?

 

Quake 4 is definitely not worth the money. It's a mindless shooter. Sure there's waves of enemies all over the place but it's just boring. You shoot them and then u move on, nothing real exciting. Graphics are even more plasticy looking than D3, prob since there are less shadows. And they have crappy looking static pictures(i.e. far off buildings/mountains etc) for backgrounds of the outside areas! I mean come on, games have stopped using those for a while now. The space ships flying overhead look like they're made out of paper. But it really isn't the graphics that turned me off. It's just that the game is sooo boring. It's quite possibly the worst shooter i've played, as far as game play goes. I thought it would be pretty fun to play w/ a squad, but it isnt. I was expecting it to be along the lines of the CoD:2, but no.

My recommendation, buy FEAR, wait for CoD:2, replay Half-life 2, or buy Far Cry.

My clans starting in E.D again after being inactive for about a year so it should be quite fun playing CS together again, 1.6 does look crap but I just dont get on with the way CS Source feels.

Prob get Cod 2, was gonna start HL then play HL2 (HL2 wasnt what I was expecting gameplay/story wise TBH)
