Anyone been to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers on their current tour? They've already played a few dates around the UK and Europe.

I'm seeing them at Hyde Park on Sunday, got Gold tickets, nice and close to the stage :D According to reviews their early performances weren't so good as they'd been 'non-gigging' for so long but apparently they've been getting progressively better. Glad I left it late in the tour to go :)

Their setlists are looking good with a couple of new songs being played - BUT NO VENICE QUEEN! That's gotta be my favourite song by them and I'd love to see them play it live! Ohhh well.

    So, anyone else going/gone?

Went yesterday to the gig in Manchester.

Gates open 3.30, sun is shining inside the stadium and we sit and warm ourselves in the sun until the first band come on:

Chicks on Speed - biggest load of utter trash and crap ive ever had the disgust to watch. The crowd felt the same; we had bottles thrown left/right/centre and people booing and giving them the finger constantly. Eventually the whole lower crowd turned around and faced the other way in protest. :hehe: I made a sign saying "U R ****" with some A4 paper i had in my bag (job interview that morning) which they saw and made me and the people around me feel better :):):) It was basically 3 40 year old women with an iMac with their songs on who had dressed up like 80s transvestites that jumped around on stage like they were being subjected to painful experiments whilst trying to "educate" us about political wrongs i think. NOT ONE had a proper instrument.

James Brown - Godfather of soul! True vegus stylee show. Songs were well long and not in the classic "CD single" style your used to, but it was very entertaining. He saved his classics to the end, but it was still all good. Uber fit dancers and a band that was damn good!

Chillies - Great, played all their classics and we got fireworks at the end. Prepare for a crowd that goes mental and crushes everything if you're standing anywhere near the front! But they had a go at the crowd for booing the chicks  Good nite, but by the time 9pm came and i had been standing for 6 hours i was probably too damn tired to really enjoy it.

Going again to the one in Cardiff next Wed with my family, although ill be telling them to turn up at 6:30 after the chicks have finished their bit.

I heard Chicks on Speed were crap but I didn't have high expectations for them anyway. James Brown will be cool :)

As this is my first concert I plan not to stand too close to the front, as I said before I have Gold tickets so I'll be close enough anyway, wherever I am.

I was at Manchester too, and it was truly amazing!
I'll echo everything about Chicks on Speed, they were diabolic.
Quite funny though, a friend of mine back here (home, south wales) was going to the Cardiff gig, and I told him beforehand that CoS were cr@p.
So when they came on everybody cheered (because they were innocent and uninformed :D) but he booed - everybody looked at him a bit strange.

Then they played their first song ...

After that everybody was booing :hehe:.

I hadn't been listening to RHCP for a while and wasn't even keen on going (it had been arranged for a few months), but now I just can't stop listening to their songs. Especially "Parallel Universe".

Oh, and the mental drum solo at the start of the encore ... I'd have paid to see just that. Amazing!!

I was up in the seating (though I really should have gone down to join the crowd). Don't think I saw it, though I would have done if it ended up on one of the big screens
