damit - it took me hours to wire up yesterday. i burnt my hand (nice big blister now), bed (mum dont know yet ), floor but finally i managed to get everything wired correctly (or so according to the info i was given). I rig it up to the parrallel port in my dads poot and download LCD smartie and all i get is the top line (its a 16x2) filled with black squares and nothing on the bottom line. I set LCD smartie up correctly (look for // port and stuff) and still no go :cries: :cries: any other software which is better?!?
Try lcd center... black line is a test bar and should appear on power up, so that's good. Looks as if she's not getting data, so if the r/w select (pin 5) properly earthed? How about the strobe, pin 6 (parallel pin 1)? And finally the reg select, pin 4 (parallel 16)... if any of these are wrong then data wouldn't get to the display. Don't forget to install port95nt (in you're using xp/2k) as well as lcd center before trying... cheers, Rob.
Its in 98se atm (didnt know about prime95nt, so when i come to use it on my machine with xp ill install that). Thank you about the test bar info!!! that's made me feel happier that my soldering skills are ok Here's how its been wired: LCD Pin : // Port Pin 1 : earth 2 : +5v 3: earth 4: // 16 5: earth 6: // 1 7: // 2 8: // 3 9: // 4 10: // 5 11: // 6 12: // 7 13: // 8 14: // 9 Ill double check the earthing cause i havent properly rigged up a molex yet - the wires are just pushed into the psu molex.
Do you know where you can get molex's ? Ive been wiring up my VFD but i dont have one so i was going to tape the wipes into my femaile molex
got a maplins near you?? they do them in there. or goto www.maplin.com (or .co.uk, i can never remember). Rob - LCD center "could not initilise display" then when i fiddled with the power cable and tryed it again "runtime error 48, could not find dlportio.dll" :cries: /me goes buys a serial LCD nexttime

lol I think you might have to install port95nt anyway then... just follow the lcd center installation instructions. r.
Now im getting an LCD center error "subscript out of range" "runtime error 9" even with 95 VB running bah st00pid thing. i cant even reinstall it to get it to work now
not good... lcd smartie should work tho... I'd go delete all the lcd center reg entries, delete all it's files and reinstall. Cheers, r.
