    Best drive for raw speed atm is the Samsung F3. If speed isn't quite so important to you a WD/Samsung Green drive might be the best thing. :)

    They'll be raided so it'd be better if i went with F3's? For the speed.

    NAS will only be on once / twice a week, but when it's on it'll be doing backup and will be on for the full night possibly 24hours.

    Another vote for F3's here. Just installed Win7 on mine and was pretty shocked how fast, silent and cool running it is.

    I think Western Digital have the best reliability figures, but Samsung aint far behind.

    That depends on your NAS. Some will insist you have to rebuild the array, and some will be able to add a disk later.

    You'd have to check documentation in honesty.

    As a general rule of thumb its safer to build the array from the start, as then you've got no data to risk.
