Whenever i rip my cds to my pc i use audiograbber and use the freedb tool to find and add ID3 tags to the mp3s. But i have quite a large mp3 collection and some do not have tags. Is there a tool out there which you add tags to mp3 files, possibly using freedb, audiograbber will only let you do it to cds.....

All the MP3s you own should be ripped from your CDs anyway...

    Google for Tag&Rename. It's awesome.

The way freedb and cddb work is they "read" the duration of every song on the CD, and identify a CD by that. This info is then send to freedb and the tracklist is sent back. So, you really need the CD in order to find the correct name/group for your MP3. It'd be very hard to identify a single MP3.

Tag&Rename, as far as I can see on one of the pages spit out by google, works with freedb as well and they literally say they can automatically download the name of "full album cd's", so not single MP3's.

I'm sorry dude, but I guess you'll have to do it by hand.

Tag & rename will also create the ID3 tag from the filename. Ie file called "cheeky girls - touch my bum.mp3" if you select the "-" as the seperator then the artist will be cheeky girls and the track name will be touch my bum. So providing you have all your mp3's named in a similar way, then you can tag most / all of them in one go.

Tag&Rename also has Internet lookup though using AllMusic.com. You can go on there with selected mp3s (or singularly if you wish) and search for an artist. If you track down the song, you can then download the artist/title/year/genre/album cover/review into the ID3 tag.

Yes, a lot of effort for one song perhaps, but the process is excellent, and very quick, for albums.
