Sonic for me, i loved playing all the sonic games for game gear, master system and megadrive. I always got bored playing mario and it still amazes me today how a fat Italian plumber can be such a successful mascot. I suppose its all about marketing and nintendo did well ripping off the Giana sisters game by changing the characters. Giana sisters was a good game which is actually being released on DS very soon in europe.
Good old Mario Games in 2D back from the days when I coudn't afford a pc and had to get a console to play instead Cheesecake
No-one would argue with that when speaking about Sonic games going 3D (even that crap sonic 3d game on the megadrive sucked) but they certainly didn't "kill" mario making his games in 3D, Mario 64 and Galaxy are regarded as some of the best games of all time. Sonic was absolutely brilliant on the megadrive, sonic 3 & knuckles was my favourite with all the characters/story/graphics and even little cutscenes explaining how he got from one level to the next. Then they added a dimension and sonic reacted badly with some sort of allergic shock and was never the same again. Super Mario World & Super Mario bros 3 (And Yoshi's Island for that matter) however are much better games, and have some of the greatest music and level design ever seen. Mario wins 2d, 3d and overall but I still loved sonic 1, 2, 3 and knuckles. I thought the Master system/GG versions were fun but nothing great
i love sonic as much as the next person, but god i hope you're joking http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Giana_Sisters
Not by me, I didn't like them at all, Mario was one of the best platformers in 2D, in 3D he is outclassed on so many occasions, it's only the Mario name that really carries it into the limelight.
For now it's a tie. Childhood memories are filled with Sonic goodness. My late teens and early twenties are more on Mario. I'll wait for the next installments of the two mascots. The one who wins, gets my vote.
I really can't understand that, I thought super mario sunshine was great fun. Stupidly hard after a while, but a good game. They're fun and charming and intuitive in all the ways a 3D platformer should be. 'Your mileage may vary', I guess is the message of the day. But I liked 3D mario.
Since Mario 64 represents the pinnacle of man's achievement in the field of gaming, I'm gonna have to go for Mario.
