Hi all, I'm gradually accumulating the parts for an ITX build which I'm planning on putting in a Streacom F1C case. I acquired a used Sony AD-7640S off eBay. It apparently came out of a Dell laptop, and it does not appear to have the orange eject button as seen in this picture: Rather my drive looks like this: I also bought a bezel off eBay thinking that it might have the eject button on it, but it doesn't. Is there any way I can basically add an eject button to my drive, or do I just have to stump up for a new drive? Any help appreciated
I know it's been some time since you've posted this thread, but I hate to see questions go unanswered, so here goes: I had a similar issue and done some research with the manufacturers. It turns out that some of these slot-load drives were made without an eject button at all (probably to save costs), while others have them. Looks like you've got the first kind. That said, there is a way to mod an eject button into these button-less drives. check out what this guy did to solve this problem: http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=219504&page=25 best of luck with the mod
I was recently in the same situation of wanting to add an eject button to an AD-7640S, and after being unable to find anything conclusive on how to do it, I managed to figure out how to do it myself. Hopefully this will help anyone else who's also trying to do the same thing. If you peel the black plastic off the bottom of the drive, you will find a few openings where you can access various components and ribbon cable connectors. The rightmost pin of the 5-wire connector on the right is pulled up to 3.3 V by the drive. When that pin is shorted to ground, it causes the drive to eject the disc. That pin is also connected to the bottom end of the middle resistor above, which might be a bit easier to solder something to, so essentially, the eject button should be connected between ground and one of the highlighted points in the picture. The metal drive case seemed to work fine as a ground.
