I took apart a Sony 'dream machine' alarm clock and it has quite a nice clock 7 segment led display. The Display panel is driven by a LM8562 (7N6) . I would like to drive this display with a PIC18F chip. I found a datasheet for the LM8562 but i cannot find a datasheet for this display panel. It's labelled with some part numbers:

    ORC-14403BG 12H
    1-805-815-11

The display panel has 18 pins. 14 control the segments and colon. The other 4 i am not sure of...By trying my best to decode and trace the pcb ive come to a few conclusions. 1 is ground (with a smd cap). 2 is also ground (with a smd cap). 3 looks like it controls 'LED A' and 4 looks like it controls 'LED B'. There is a power tab connected to the back of the display panel however it looks like it is connected to (-) on the pcb.

My main questions are what is the pin out of the panel? and also according to the LM8562 datasheet, the panel is driven by 2 cycles. I guess this is how you can change which segments are controlled since every pin has 2 segments assigned to it. Sony has connected both of the power tabs together so it looks like they do not use 2 cycles to control it.

If anyone has experience with this kind of display or has any information that would be great!

    Thanks
