Fixed keyboard? Ew. That was what I liked about the original P900 was the optional flap. Then on the 910 it became mandatory, but could be removed with a screw. Now they've just slapped on a big keyboard. Not so sure.

'part from that, it looks good. :)

Nice features, but IMO the software doesn't compete with Windows Mobile.

I lub my p900. This new one looks very smart although I, too, am unsure about the fixed keyboard. Looks a bit squished and 'after-thought-ish'.

btw, love the names in the contact list ;)

edit (a little more elaboration) :

I guess it looks better in the flesh, but the keyboard looks like it should flip up to reveal yet more screen acreage, hence why -imo- it looks a bit tacky. It just looks like it could have been designed better - perhaps even getting rid of the ridges that I guess are supposed to be some kind of flowing design element or something, would make it look more like a complete keyboard.

I definately couldn't agree more that yes, it does look rather good, but it could have looked outright sexy.

Is it any more squished than a Blackberry or any other smartphone with a fixed keyboard? It's definitely *not* an afterthought. The flip keyboard on the P910 vs P900 would have been in response to people complaining about virtual keyboards etc and was the best solution they could manage without a total redesign.

The P990 *is* this redesign: new screen, fixed keyboard etc etc Enthusiasts like us might have all removed the flip and used the touchscreen, but SE are trying to steal some market share from Blackberry.

Oh, the names on the contact list are the official Sony Ericsson product photos. The web browsing and RSS feeds showing bit-tech were my little "modification" just for fun :) (it was originally bbc.co.uk)

I really hope they managed to sort out the software for the P9XX phones with this one. When the P910i came out I instantly upgraded from my P900 to find it slow, clunky and practically unusable. I simply placed the P910i back in the box after less than a week and continued to use the P900.

Don't wish to start my phone is better than yours wars... But have people checked out the O2 Exec?

520mhz, windows mobile, 640x480 screen, wifi, 3g, fixed keyboard and a full sized screen thanks to tablet-esque design.

May not have the looks, but it boasts a fair whack more punch than the P9xx's

Fair comment, the O2 Exec actually looks very nice. One small advantage the p9xx range has is that the phone can comfortably slip into a pocket, whereas the O2 looks fairly bulky, at least almost twice as thick as a standard pda. I would guess other advantages are talk time/standby time - a 'phone' with a vga screen would either need charging more often or a larger battery.
