I'll stick to DRM-less free music, thanks.

I don't think this is that significant. Those people that want to buy music are quite happy to use the websites and webservices of the providers of the music. In fact it will probably be harder to find legal music that you can share on most P2P because of the abundance of illegal DRM-free media. From Sony's point of view it might lessen the effort of distributing their music as they will be able to lessen the bandwidth load on their servers but I would have thought there would be just as many technical difficulties in trying to get legal file sharing to work.

In terms of hacking this won't make any difference of course. People can just as easily have a go at hacking the various DRM protections on downloaded music.

I think the way you will pay for it will work by having to register an account on Sony's website and whenever you play the music it will ask if you want to pay for it or not. If you don't have an account it will probably ask you if you want to create one or not. At least that's my guess.

It's a subscriber model like Napster, you switch your broadband provider over to Playlouder and then you can download anything from SonyBMG's back catalogue you want for £26.99 a month on a 1Mb ADSL connection, and share any of the tracks you've downloaded with other Playlouder subscribers.

Forgive the late post, guys...but I'm confused. Why would I pay to file-share? If I'm going to legally purchase music, I want it like iTunes....One click, and I'm assured a virus-free, high-fidelity file straight from a safe music source, without waiting. $0.99/song is just not much to ask for.

I agree with P2P as a distribution vehicle, but not for this...the files are too small. If I want to download music legally, I have a very nice system for that already.
