Just in time for Christmas, eh? This from Reuters:

MAKUHARI, Japan (Reuters) - Sony Corp. said on Friday it would launch the latest version of its blockbuster racing game software "Gran Turismo" in December in a potentially strong boost for holiday sales of its PlayStation 2 console.

The Gran Turismo series, originally launched in 1997, has sold more than 36 million units worldwide, making it the most popular PlayStation title created in-house by Sony Computer Entertainment, the videogame unit of Sony.

"More than 650 cars from 80 manufacturers will go into the software, topping the series record of 500 cars in GT 2," Sony Computer Entertainment Japan senior vice president Kazunori Yamauchi told a packed auditorium at Tokyo Game Show 2004.

"Gran Turismo 4" will be released on Dec. 3 in Japan and the rest of Asia, and on Dec. 14 in North America. The European launch will take place around the same time.

Prices have yet to be set, and there is no concrete sales target for the latest version, Yamauchi said.

That's you're lot, but as it's you, I'll let you have a link as well.

I'm a big fan of GT3, so I'm naturally looking forward to GT4 - however, the pressing question in it is will it have damage this time? The disapointing thing about GT3 was that you couldn't damage the cars, and a race could easily descend into bumper-cars using the armco and trackside scenery as stearing devices...

Anyhow, until then, I'll just have to make do with Burnout 3... :thumb:

I'm fairly certain there is still no damage I'm afraid :(

It's something to do with some of the manufactures not wanting you to see their pretty cars all beat up :duh: Do they not realise how much better te game will be if it was completely realistic - therefore more sales - therefore more people see the cars - more sales for car manufacturers... We are not dumb, we know a car dents if you crash it /rant off

On the plus side I belive GT4 contains the Ford Model T :D

    Sweet.

The only two downsides to all of the GT series have been:

    No damage.
Obscene lack of opponent AI - they just go round a track, they don't race.

Actually I was being serious, should be a great luagh to have 6 Model T 'tearing' :worried: round the track...

More seriously the inclusion of the Model T does point to the possible inclusion of other classics which could be fun :D

I just hope that it isn’t something stupid like there really is only like 10 cars, and each of those 10 cars has like 20 different appearances. So the corvette would be the same as a Toyota supra just with a different skin.

Yeah. If you want those features, look no further than Toca Race Driver 2. It's got great damage, and the AI is far better than GT. No more overtaking on the last straight, the opponents cars are equal to yours, you actually have to out-manouvre them. Which is a good thing. I still reckon GT3 just edges it, but it's close.

I'm not sure that damage is a good inclusion to be honest. It's all too easy to catch a corner slightly wrong, spin off and then it's race over. Pretty annoying really. Although it is great on 2 player seeing how much you can kill your car. :D

The images I've seen online have included a lot of classics - mkI corvette, old japanese cars, Mitsubishi Starion Turbo, what looked like a big old Healey.

    ARGH

Just read a few things about GT4:

    Nordschleife!
Impacts...whilst not hugely damaging, they will throw you offline et cetera.
They still haven't made a decent rally track - they're still as wide as a 3 lane motorway.

Considering it is made by Sony er....no.

Besides, the Dual Shock 2 is the greatest controller of all time. It is perfect.
