If you've had it for such a long time, maybe try cleaning it? A friend of mine took apart his laptop and there was lots of dust in it, indeed the cpu got so hot that it underclocked itself and spontaneously switched off at some points.
Been looking on the net about doing a Ram upgrade. So far havent really found much but i think this would work. Link Tbh i dont really wanna spend £25 but if it makes it a lot faster then i guess i will have too. As i dont know much about the inside of a laptop can you guys help me? I took a picture of all the insides i could get too. I can see the hard drive (left) and the ram (middle) but not sure about the thing on the far right (i think its the motherboard) and the thing in the top left (i have no idea what that is). Picture am i right in thinking that there are two ram slots and the bottom one is empty? If so then that should be easy to fit in. Thanks for the help
Downloading XP if you have a license is a grey area, *Whispers* Don't even think we can talk about it on the forums. Surely you have some techy mates that have a spare disc they could lend you for the afternoon? Formatting seems to speed up my PC when I've been running it for a while... especially with XP. But if you do format, ensure you have the drivers downloaded... as it's an absolute pain in the rear to format and realise that you can't find drivers to download. This is especially hard for older systems.
Then don't! Here's the same RAM, but half the price ... http://www.ebuyer.com/product/82242 ... more brands here if you prefer not to use generic RAM ... http://www.ebuyer.com/search?limit=50&store=2&cat=152&subcat=2060&sort=pricelow&page=1 Yup. I'd recommend you buy two of those 512mb sticks and take out the 256mb already in it, filling up to your max of 1gb, for (assuming you buy the ebuyer value ram above) only £26. Less than one direct from Crucial Also, on the subject of your XP disc - your laptop should have a recovery partition built in (press a button on startup) or a recovery CD, which will restore the factory image. Check the Sony website on how to perform a recovery. You don't need to go illegally downloading stuff, and in theory, your license key is a Sony OEM key, so probably wouldn't work with whatever you could download.
