    Hey guys,

I'm going to sling a new SSD drive into my laptop, as well as replace the battery. I thought I should also change the fan's out as well for something better (quieter would be nice).
Any ideas as to what I should try out, and also a supplier would be handy.

I appreciate any ideas, as I've not dealt with upgrading laptop internals before.

(just to note that the laptop whilst at home sits upon a large Zalman laptop cooler)

Not really something which is done.

The fans will be designed to work with the fan power profile that is built into the bios, that will be specific for your laptop. Change the fan and that could be a detriment to the cooling of the laptop.

You may well find a quick clean out may reduce temps and noise.

I guess replacing the HD with a new SSD will help reduce heat in there at least.
I'll clean it up anyway but it's frustrating not really having any choice in this matter.
Perhaps a direct replacement could be useful as I hear a noise from it on start up sometimes.

Have a search through ebay, if you think its wornout then that would be a good idea.

Another thing which can keep temps down is to remount the cooler with some decent compound.

New fan, clear out the dust and remounting it will deffo reduce the noise and temps.

Cheers, I will certainly do that and I'll report back the temps to see if there is an improvement at all.
Poor thing, I'm sure it's the GPU that causes the most heat inside, as if I have it so that the screen turns off after a few moments of inactivity the fans quieten down a far bit.

Laptops have tiny heatsinks and tiny fans. Proper cooling will require many RPM. I've found that in some cases the CPU won't be adequately cooled even with the fan running at full speed. Cooling is heavily affected by any amount of dust in the heatsink.

Have you thought about using something like this to aid with cooling.

That one is just an example not a recommendation though.

Hey CrapBag - as mentioned I have the large Zalman one (this one) which I've used with it since day one :thumb:
Initially for the first year I was doing lots of high end rendering/visual effects until I bought a dedicated watcooled monster, so now it's just used for the internet/films/music etc
I'll break out the IPA and compressed air this weekend :D

clean out fans and re-TIM the coolers have worked wonders for me on all my past laptops especially the ever lapcooking ION netbook.
