I got home from the bar around 3AM my time and noticed bit-tech (the http server itself) was not running on the server bit-tech runs on. After attempting to start apache, encountered some weird issues with binding to port 80 so performed a server reboot to fix the problem quickly. I'm now looking into why it occurred to prevent future happenings. Sorry about that! Cheers, David
I called up my ISP and complained abou lack of internet. afterall... bit never goes down that ahrd for me, so i thought i had no connection. yeah, im stupid.
hehe.. take a look at the staff page... quite a few americans there... besides: LOTS of the members are american aswell...
in texas... a couple of racks down from my server from what I can work out Do you know how much it would cost to host BiT in the UK with the amount of data transfer I guess they get through
No…actually I don’t…It doesn’t really matter…you go where the price is right. At least I do anyway. It just struck me as funny. Ya see…that just goes to show ya were really one big place. It the politicos the keep us split apart.
Don't think it really matters where bit-tech is hosted now does it. Its gonna run at the same speed no matter where it is in the world so i think dlas is a great place to have it[weel wouldn't say great but still does the job]. Don't worry about the downtime Monolith i didn't notcie [slap slap] computer problems ruined it for me Have fun ppl
That shiny silver waterblock's not treating you as well as you'd hoped then - vengeance for making us all jealous of the bling-rig... I noticed BiT went down t'other night - didn't worry me too much though, it usually comes back pretty sharpish and this time was no exception
Yes. Glad you all seemed to survive the downtime (for the most part). Yes, bit-tech is hosted on one of my servers in Dallas. Do you have any idea how much they would have to pay if it was hosted in the UK to get the kind of connectivity they are getting through me in Dallas? You really don't want to know. http://monolith.orblivion.com/images/network/network.png
Ah.. good 'ol orb. Didn't notice, not online much atm and I had just gone to bed. One a side note... got a 120GB hard drive ordered yesterday Should be back up and running after Thanksgiving break.
SprintLink Gig-e coming live on december 15 though For hosting BiT on a well connected UK network you're probably talking a 4 figure monthly price Digitalblueshift - it means they utilize juniper m20 routers as border routers, Cisco 6500 series switches in the distribution layer, Cisco 6500 and 5500 switches in the aggregation layers, and Cisco 3500 and 2900 series switches at the customer layer, connected to 7 (soon to be 8) backbone providers... which basically means BiT will always be avaliable, nice and fast. </salesman mode>
EDIT: just reread your post. Why so many switches??? are there that many computers? I guess this would be a question about the fundamental internet archetecture, which is probably wayyy beyond me at this point in time (my brain isnt working right). Il read the answer later if there is one.
