    Apologies again...

I've been playing the waiting game for at least 6 months now, initially I wanted an ATI 5850, then decided I may as well just bite the bullet and get a 5870.

Any now there's this Nvidia 460...

    My requirements are pretty straightforward:

    1) Must fit in my case (Antec 300)
    2) Must be nice and quiet. Very quiet please!
    3) Must run nice and cool
    4) Must play all current games (bar Crysis - I never got it) at 1920x1080, preferably with lashings of detail
    5) Budget - whatever. If I need to buy a 5870 I will, but would prefer to spend less :)

The weird thing is, I currently run a 8800GT 512Mb and it appears to be coping rather well. I think I get a bit of slowdown in BFBC2 and Dirt2 but I've not seen these running on anything better so I can't be sure!

And that's the nub of my problem I guess - because I'm familiar with my rig and how games run, I could be missing out on a much nicer graphical experience without even knowing it.

    Any thoughts welcome please...

    Cleggy.

    Yes, please post your budget.

The 460 is an excellent card, and is a big upgrade from an 8800GT

I would suggest the 1GB Gigabyte version: It provides the power of the 460, has excellent cooling to guarantee it will last a good while, and is near silent.

I had exactly the same dilemma, but all the write ups have said the 460's a cracker in that price range/spec.As for anything else it looks like it has to have to have ATI written on it for the time being.

    Sorry chaps, budget would help...

I'm prepared to drop £300 or whatever on a 5870, but would prefer to spend £200 if that's all I need.

In that case it's back to the 460 then, same as the 5850, it';ll do everything well and not kill your wallet.

5870 with vapor x mod would be quiet

    or this 5870

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-001-HS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1502

30-40 c at load fan speed on 10-20% you even get a free game.

the 460 isnt quiet and its not even close to 5870 performance wise even if you overclock it.

the quietist 460 is still louder than the 5870 stock cooler ( which in itself is pretty noisy for a card )

if your budget fits £320 for the card i listed its one of the quietist cards you can buy.

460 with any of the fans avail at the min is a noisy bugger my m8 has 2 and its like a hurricane taking off once he overclocked em it got worse.

you need to state a budget though

if your budget is £200 id be sorely tempted to buy a quiet 5830 if quiet is your main goal. As the ATI cards are alot quieter under load than the noisy nvidia cards.

if your budget is £400 then the card ive listed is one of the best and quietist avail on the market today ( vapor x is quieter but you pay a premium for it
