U can find this on ebay from the US pretty easily, but apprently sound absorbant matting has had its day. Now theres sound abosrbant paint in a spray can!! and more importantly it really works!!
Just goto your local Home Depot or Autozone and look for a can of rubberized undercar coating. The stuff works great for sound dampening and you can paint over it as needed. Here is a pic of the product I use...
yea the stuff mini is talking about is made by dyno-mat for cars its no better than the padding its just ment for places padding cant go like tighcorners or in the headliner i used some in my mustange and it worked ok but when i added padding it was better all be it thicker
Home Depot and Lowes also has some stuff in their spray paint department that is made for coating the grips of tools and such with rubber. Its like rubber in a can, pretty cool. It stays flexible after it dries. I'm using it for my project, should be spraying either tomorrow or Thursday. I'm planning on coating the entire internal surface of the case so that there is a layer of rubber between everything...should silence it nicely.
i wonder how even ur gunna get it ...the dyno-mat stuff sucked b/c it was so hard to keep even . good luck does it come in colors?
If the only noise in my case wasn't coming from my case fans (mostly the air movement sound, and yes I've killed the grills) I'd look into it. Of course you can't really hear it at all so I'm not that bothered (zalman 7000cu at full spin ~25dB and two silenx 14dB thermistor controlled 80mm)
this stuff helps that to, u wouldent here the sound if it wasent bouncing around, this stuff catches it have u tryed those clear fan gaskets they have had great reviews?
Yeah they don't do a thing for me, let alone fit correctly in the case. But as I mentioned, it's extremely quiet to begin with.
This stuff works pretty well. I bought some for an auto application and it seemed to work pretty well. not dynamat, but a lot cheaper!
Today I sprayed the plastic spray I mentioned before. I'm not real impressed with it. I was expecting a thicker coat with less work I suppose. It goes on just like spray paint. Although you can lay it on really thick without having to worry about runs. I was in a hurry and the can says to wait 4(!) hours between coats, so instead I just put on one really thick one. It does feel different and the metal sounds different with it on, duller sounding. I think I'm still going to use rubber washers to deaden the noise of the fans and drives.
Whilst we're on the subject of sound-dampening cases. Can anybody recommend a proven brand of sound-dampening matts? And how much off a difference does a full case job do to noise levels? I'm not sure about this spray stuff though. Surely a thick layer of sprayed on rubber paint will act as a greater heat insullator than matts? At least you can rip matts out if you make a mistake (or your case gets too hot). Imagine trying to scrap this rubber stuff off!
I suggest dynamat for noise dampening applications. It is used in autos and makes a huge difference there, so I suspect that it would do the same on a pc. It is a heat insulator though.....
That stuff has been around for many many years. You can get it in small "rattle" cans or buy it by the gallon for use in a real spray gun.
