As title, can anybody tell me what cards are definitely capable of this feature, whilst also being 100% compatible with Vista x64? The query is linked to this post (thanks again for the excellent advice Tad ). I'm in the process of sorting myself some active monitors, and an extrenal DAC. Now I just need to ensure that I can feed it a pure, bit-matched signal. I game a lot and listen to lots of music; features that benefit either of those would be good but I'm only using 2 channels, so any multichannel jiggerypokery isn't really required.
X-Fi is, as are all of the E-Mu cards I've used (but they generally don't work in Vista) I'll give my X-Plosion and the onboard on my P5K a poke tomorrow to check edit: just noticed that we have the same mobo, so you can try that one Check for something like direct-out, bit-matched, bypass DSP etc in the SPDIF settings. make sure the speakers are turned way down when you have a play though, as it will generally bypass the volume control too (ie - max it)
You're gonna get sick of replying to my posts one of these days Tad I'll take it you don't recall me badgering you for info on the P5K via PM, prior to my purchase then I've had a look on the driver panel and couldn't see anything obvious. Wait... I'm looking at it as I'm typing and I've just seen a large button that turns DSP on/off. Is it really as simple as that? With DSP off will the SPDIF output signal be "bit-matched"? if it is
I do recall being badgered about it at some point, but I can't possibly be expected to remember who badgered me about what and when When you turn off DSP, does the windows volume control still work?
That's probably a good thing actually, as if you were going to hook up anything to the line level output on the DAC (as stated in your other thread), you're going to need volume control on the PC I'll have a play tomorrow and compare the SPDIF output on the X-Fi and the onboard and see if there's anything in it, just because I'm nice like that
