While away on holiday my son decided to tinker with my steam controller to get it working in BF6. When I came back the sound through my speakers kept dropping every few seconds for about 1 second so you missed audio. He reckons he didn't touch anything else other than steam and maybe installed one program which he then uninstalled. I decided to update the driver and then just made it worse, its doping the same thing but now the sound is really loud with out changing anything. I then completely remove the drivers and turn the HD output off in the bios. Then I try an old Asus Xonar DX but it refuses to be found when the driver is installed. So i turn the HD output back on in the bios, reboot and my sound is back. Should have left well enough alone as i decided to try the drivers again and now its broken again, removed the drivers, still the same. Why would it suddenly start working without the proper drivers only to drop out again? Can i fix this or should i be buying a sound card, maybe an external one?
Went into device manager and removed both the realtek audio and the optical devices and now it works, totally confused, apparently its working without any drivers.
Its still doing it, whats my best option... I have a logitech 5.1 speaker system 1. Cheapo pcie sound card 2. USB sound adaptor 3. reasonably price pcie 4. Second hand?
Seems like my Z506 system has died after testing, hooked up a set of X540's i had in storage and seemingly no output from the rear channel or sub from the motherboard so double trouble, starting to think a new board is going to be the cheaper option or use a back up board I have lying around but its not my mortar
