Should I get? Do I need? I currently have a set of Microlabs SOLO6c speakers and I have a Behringer UFO202 U-phono USB Audio Interface because I got it for a couple of quid. I am not an audio geek, if my games and music sound good at high volume then that is pretty much all I care about. So would a sound card be a better choice as it is one less thing connected externally to my PC? And what about cable connection as I have my speakers connected with two digital cables. would these connect to a sound card? I probably should be asking better questions but I know nothing of this subject so any and all advice welcome.
Does your current set up sound good to you? How much money are you willing to throw at this, and how confident are you that you'd be able to genuinely tell the difference?
Does your current set up sound good to you? Yes it does. How much money are you willing to throw at this? Judging by the prices of sound cards on the MP i do not feel that I would need to spend that much. And how confident are you that you'd be able to genuinely tell the difference? I doubt I will though I can tell the difference between the quality of digital as opposed to analogue, but what I would prefer to have an internal as opposed to the current external solution which would be so much tidier.
Am I being really dumb, but what external solution? From looking at the Behringer UFO202 U-phono USB Audio Interface that Kronos said he uses it doesn't have a sound chip in it, maybe I'm just showing my ignorance though.
He's using that as an external sound card which he plugs his speakers into. I would guess the speakers probably benefit from a slightly higher line level input which the berhinger provdes. Behringer are typically a bargain bucket brand in terms of audio. So I would think that any reasonable pci-e sound card would do the same job. The only question is how long would the cable be from your computer to the speakers. As at a reasonable length analogue signals may pick up noise.
So what you're saying is i was being dumb. I didn't think the Behringer UFO202 had an internal audio chip.
The problem is that if you are chasing audiophile then you would most likely need a external device any way (a DAC). So if you're happy with what you have then I would say leave it be. If you really must get something then I would suggest the Creative SBZ as it would seem Creative have finally sorted out their drivers and they can be had on Ebay with the mic brand new for around £40.
I have no idea what 'a chasing audiophile' and I am not sure I want to. What i am looking for is an external solution as my current set up with this Behringer lying around is nuisance with the extra cable needed.
Audiophiles are those who chase audio clarity/quality. Due to this they will spend stupid money on things. Just recently I spent £135 on a USB DAC and £190 on a pair of headphones. Not as stupid as it could have been (I could have done grands easily) but still a fair chunk of coin. Creative do a few external models you could try. Of late their drivers have been absolutely excellent and for the first time in many years I can say "I own a Soundblaster that actually works". If you want the best though then a DAC would be a better option. This - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cambridge-Audio-C10659K-Dac-Magic/dp/B00FSDFF9K For example is a entry level DAC that will be far better than most of the external sound solutions available. Not only is it a sound card but it is also a DAC (digital to analogue converter) that will improve the quality of your music providing the source is good (FLAC and high bitrate MP3)
That is still external and I do want to go internal. I note that I made a mistake in my last post as it should have read "What i am looking for is an external internal solution," sorry for the confusion.
The Microlabs SOLO6c have 2RCA as output connection and the SoundBlaster Z does not can I assume that there is a converter I could get or should I be looking at something else?
