Hey all. Building myself a super low budget desktop and was wondering if anyone had advice on sound cards as I'm starting from there and building upwards. Its a completley music playing and producing orientated machine and I'll need midi in and optical in/out. Thoughts? Souund. :hip:

Motherboard integrated sound card. Or Studio class sound card (which beats an ASUS Xonar and alike by far, as they are design for.. well studios, for recording and such)... but a Studio sound card is VERY expensive, like in the 500, 600+ dollars for a descent one (for home), probably.

I doubt a super-low-budget setup will have the headroom for a $600+ sound card.

Your best bet right now, is getting a motherboard with decent built in sound, and built in optical / coaxial connections. For MIDI, get a cheap USB -> MIDI cable. They sell them for about $10 USD online.

I googled this and it looks like the Turtle Beach Riviera 5.1 is the cheapest to have both optical and MIDI/Joystick.
