Im working on building a HTPC and I want the sound from the computer to be directed to the tv's speakers. How (if possible) do I connect the audio out on my soundcard to my tv? I was thinking that I would just need to get an adapter for the soundcard to rca and just connect the two and that would be it. Is this idea right? Thanks!
i HIGHLY recommend not skimping on this cable .... any electrical hum your putr makes will be brutally amplified by your tv/av rack ... i use a 1m Monster cable 1/8" trs to l/r RCA splitter cable ... well shielded ... but me sub still makes it hum a little ... http://www.monstercable.com/productPage.asp?pin=146 20 bucks at best buy ... well worth it for watching dvds or divx/xvid with ac3 sound ...
It might be an idea to check your "In" I/O on your tv. My Toshiba will only process and play sounds if there is an active video signal. I.E for Red and White to work, there must be video in through Yellow.
Im not really going to be connecting this to anything I would call a "home theater". I guess you would call this project just a dvd/pvr. By the way, the tv that i have isnt anything special, I dont have surround sound or anything like a reciever I just wanted to hear the sound from the pc through the tv since it will be sitting next to the tv all the time. Oh yeah, the tv just has 2 rca inputs. One for video and the other for audio so I wont need two cables for right and left audio.
I found a few extra plugs in my junk box and decided to wire something up and guess what? It works pretty well! I found some old ghostbusters cartoons on kazaa and was watching them today on the tv and it looks suprisingly like the cartoon would if it were broadcast. Only problem is that I have to turn up the audio on the tv really high to hear it at a normal level but it doesent bother me much. Thanks for the help!
